Didn't know what to expect, collected a free map/ leaflet for 2 mile walk for the town that never was. Really enjoyed myself. A nice cafe halfway round, also coffee and cake at national trust shop. Local residents were lovely and chatty. Definitely will visit again

A Hidden Coastal Treasure with Breathtaking Views

Ravenscar is one of those rare places that feels like a true escape from the busy world. Perched on the cliffs above the North Sea, it offers stunning panoramic views that are absolutely worth the trip. It’s quiet, unspoiled, and perfect for those who enjoy nature, history, and peaceful walks.

One of the highlights is the cliffside path along the Cleveland Way, where you can hike between Ravenscar and Robin Hood’s Bay—an unforgettable experience with sea views, wildlife, and rolling countryside. The remnants of the old alum works give the place a sense of deep history, and there’s a quiet beauty to its wild, open landscape.

There aren’t many shops or cafes, but that’s part of its charm. It’s more about disconnecting, enjoying the fresh sea air, and soaking in Yorkshire’s natural beauty. A great place for walkers, photographers, and anyone looking to slow down and take in something special.

Walked here from Robin hood bay on the sinder track, stopped for a cheese scone and tea, and Walked back along the coastal path, perfect place for a refreshing stop.

The Yorkshire Coast offers some of the most stunning coastal views in the UK, with a perfect blend of picturesque beaches, dramatic cliffs, and quaint seaside towns. From the bustling resort of Scarborough to the quieter, scenic spots like Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

The area is rich in history, with landmarks like Whitby Abbey and Scarborough Castle adding an extra layer of charm. The coastline is ideal for walking, cycling, and exploring nature, with beautiful trails that offer panoramic views of the sea.

Local seafood is a highlight, with many towns offering fresh fish and chips right by the sea. Whether you’re visiting for a relaxing weekend, a family holiday, or an adventurous walk along the cliffs, the Yorkshire Coast never disappoints.

Truly breathtaking views in Ravenscar. The weather was amazing the day we visited so there were far reaching views along the coast. We parked on the roadside and did one of the shorter walking routes that included the Alum Works. There isn't a great deal in Ravenscar but I'd absolutely recommend a visit for the amazing views and lovely walks!

Lots of roadside parking, very clean toilets and stunning views.
The walk down to the beach is brutal and lots of seals basking when the tides out.
The coastal path is very well sign posted and easy to walk and dog friendly unlike the beach.
