My family and I cannot say enough good things about our tour with Giles. We had travelled a long way, from Canada, and Giles helped make our time so seamless and memorable. From the beginning, Giles was so helpful and accommodating. He had all of our accommodations arranged, food planned and daily schedules organized.

Giles is incredibly knowledgeable about the war, landmarks, geography of the land and gave thoughtful stories about the places we had visited throughout the tour. As someone who has once visited the WW1 battlefields on a self guided tour, I had learnt and saw so much more through this tour with Giles. This experience wouldn’t have been so amazing if it weren’t for Giles kind and personable nature!!

We had a fabulous day out exploring some of the key locations on the Somme. Giles was an excellent guide, giving us a highly detailed and informative insight into the epic nature of the Somme battlefield. The tour left us with a lasting impression and a much greater understanding of such a tragic and moving period of 20th century history. Had a great 5 days covering the Battle from Flanders to the Somme. Was great that Giles has such a grasp on the background to each period and how each site relates to the whole war. He also tuned tge trip to be specifically relevant to our family's war. The highpoint for me was doing a battlefield walk experiencing the lie of tge land through an attack. Accommodation and food was perfect.

We had a fabulous trip to Normandy in October. It was amazing how seeing the actual remains of the conflict helped to understand something of what the War was. Giles knew the best places to go and explained what happened in graphic detail. We had a detailed itinerary from Utah beach right along to the Pegasus Bridge. We saw where and how the actions portrayed in 'Band of Brothers', 'Saving Private Ryan' and other films took place. Shivers down the spine! We also followed in the footsteps of my Father's regiment from Sword beach to Combes. It was a very moving experience, but also enormous fun! PS Giles also knew the good French cafes.

Williamsomme Tours was the most outstanding and worthwhile experience - thank you Giles! We went for a weekend as a family with 5 children aged from 10 - 15 and all thoroughly enjoyed the 2 days. Giles delivered the tour in an engaging way, making history come to life and in a way that gripped the entire family. It has made us want to do another tour in the future. If you are looking for a tour of WW1/WW2 sites look no further as you will not be able to find better than going with Mike and Giles. Their knowledge on this subject is second to none as well as being very welcoming and accommodating. We enjoyed every moment of their company. We had a great experience with Williamsomme Tours during our four-day visit to some of the battlefields and war cemeteries in northern France which included those on the Somme.
As Mike was accompanying another group during our stay, we had the pleasure of being guided by Giles who is both very knowledgeable and personable.
Before our arrival, Giles had already done some research on a relative of mine who was killed in action in France and took us to the location where he was in battle in 1914.
Giles is a first-class guide who is very accommodating and goes the extra mile to ensure his guests get the best experience. Supported by maps and photographs of many of the locations we visited, he helped us envisage the landscapes as they would have been at the time they were produced, which is otherwise difficult to do in what is now beautiful countryside. The stories he recounted of some of the servicemen lying at rest in the cemeteries provided a poignant reminder as to the horrors of war.
Food and accommodation on the tour were excellent and included a couple of very good restaurant meals on two of the evenings.
Mike and Giles will provide a suggested itinerary if requested, but are very flexible and will tailor it to personal requirements.
I would highly recommend Williamsomme Tours to anyone who wants a very personalised and informative battlefield tour experience in France.
