Fabulous week with Wilkes Walks’ “Enticing Exmoor” based at Yarn Market Hotel, a warm and friendly family-run hotel in beautiful Dunster. Excellent organisation and leadership as always by Julian Wilkes. Great company of small group of walkers from all parts of the UK. Julian knows the area so well that he was able to accommodate our varying abilities to everyone’s satisfaction, with plenty of rest and refreshment stops to keep us all happy. Brilliant holiday, and would highly recommend as a way of seeing the varied landscapes of this beautiful part of the world.

Extremely well led by Julian, who took care to spend time en route with the tortoises and the hares in our sociable group.
Wonderful array of locations on moors, valleys, woods, coast path and stream side.

Nick and I thoroughly enjoyed our week’s walking in and around Exmoor. The walks were varied and interesting. Julian was always ready with excellent local knowledge and folklore. He looked after each and every one of us and nothing was too much trouble.
We will definitely book with Wilkes Walks again

Julian is absolutely wonderful. We booked a walking tour with him in Berkhamstead. He’s very knowledgeable about the nature and history of the area. He tailored the walk to meet our interests and experience with hiking (we were all beginners). He also booked us lunch at a local pub after the walk. All in all an amazing, well organised day! There were 6 of us and everyone throughly enjoyed themselves. Last thing, we had some trouble getting up to Berkhamstead which made us late and Julian was so accommodating.

I recently spent a really enjoyable weeks walking holiday based in Dunster and around Exmoor and the South West Coast path with Wilkes Walks. Julian Wilkes is an experienced and knowledgeable walk leader who makes every walk interesting and fun whatever the weather. If you are a keen walker I thoroughly recommend him and very much hope to join his walks again in the future.

Great walking holiday on Exmoor in September 2022.All the walks were well planned and varied.
There were 5 walks plus a half day walk on our “rest day”.The walks were on the Moor or the South West Coastal Path.
The hotel was comfortable and very welcoming in the lovely location of Dunster,a medieval village near to Minehead.
The hotel provided transport to and from the walks which enabled our group to see more of the area.
Julian managed the walking week superbly well and I thoroughly recommend his walking holidays

This was a great introduction to the Charming Chilterns, exploring lovely countryside and ancient woodlands, and enjoying wonderful panoramic views. The walking was delightful, our guide Julian very knowledgeable and attentive, he made sure everyone had a great holiday. Accommodation was comfortable and central, close to lots of great bars and restaurants. A highlight of the holiday was an evening at the Art Deco Ritzy cinema in Berkhamsted. I’ll definitely book another trip with Wilkes Walks 😊😊

Exmoor March 2023
A great week in varied and beautiful countryside. The leader is exceptionally well informed about the natural world and led with genuine enthusiasm. He was always attentive to individual needs as well as the group. Fun and interesting. Great walking companions. Hotel very comfortable and welcoming with friendly, hard working staff who genuinely do everything possible to please.
