Large carpark on a dead end road, just down from the Roman Army Museum. Pay and display £6 all day (March 2024). A good base camp for several walks in different directions. The small visitor centre has tea, coffee and snacks - alongside tourist information. Check the website as they close the centre out of season, but keep the car park open all year round. There is also a specific Dark Skies viewing area for special celestial events. Be aware, it's a very steep section of Hadrian's Wall, very up and down, but the views from the top are spectacular.

Ideal for walkers/dogs with excellent toilet facilities and walks of varied lengths all pretty well marked out. Watch where walk: Lots of frogs and toads proceeding towards the main lake in March (piggy back fashion) Hardly anyone there though.

A fantastic haven for wildlife, scenery and history as it contains Hadrian's Wall. We go there regularly with our dog.

You can see various birds on the lake, sometimes deer in the wild if you are lucky.

If you like nature this is the place for you. There are also some picnic benches and a willow labrinyth walk.
