We just came home from our 5th or was it 6th? visit to Dulverton. We stayed at the beautiful Stockham Farm, but that is for another review. Dulverton is a gateway to the glorious Exmoor National Park. Beautiful walks and scenery, whatever the weather. Itās a small market town, with a wonderful choice of places to eat, grab a coffee or enjoy a full dining experience. Weāve tried The Copper Kettle for breakfast and brunch. The staff are engaging and welcoming. Food and drink are served quickly and always tastes delicious. Grab a takeaway Fish and chips from Exmoor Fish and Chips. Food is cooked freshly while you wait so itās piping hot to enjoy back at the cottage. Morning coffee and cake at Tantivy is a great find with its gifts and range of specialty food and drinks. So much better than the coffee chains in the major towns and definitely more friendly. Late afternoon drinks in The Bridge Inn before going home after a day out, with the log fire in winter warms your soul or plenty of seating outside for summer evenings with a wander across the road to watch children play in the shallow water under the bridge The friendly bar staff and local residents make you feel welcome. A special meal if you have something to celebrate is at Tongdam Thai Restaurant. Authentic Thai cuisine can be served inside the cosy restaurant or outside on their magically lit deck of the weather is warm. The owners are super friendly and happy to share their wonderful story of how the restaurant came to be. Woods Bar and Restaurant has great reviews, but we are keeping that one on our list for a celebration evening .
Thereās a 19th century church in the village and once again, we found the congregation very welcoming. Thereās a decent size Co-Op which sells essentials so no need to worry about taking the contents of your fridge/freezer on holiday. They also have a fabulous Butchers, Greengrocers, Deli, Post Office and Pet shop. Antique shops, Bookshops, Chemist and a variety of Clothes and gift shops, along with the Town Hallās Thrift shop. Not to be missed is Browns in the High Street. Home, garden and jewellery is the perfect place to find that little something as a gift or a treasure for our garden.
Dulverton has a monthly Farmers Market on the last Saturday of the month from April to September but they also have a small indoor market in the Town Hall. We found some lovely craft stalls at the Farmers Market. We park at Exmoor House Car Park because it has 2 InstaVolt EV rapid charging points. Parking charges are still payable, but much more reasonably priced compared to home in Surrey.
TheGuildhall Heritage and Arts Centre is situated behind the Exmoor National Park Centre and is free entry. It gives you a taste of Dulverton gone by and thereās even a small model railway for children and āBig Kidsā! What have I missed? Not sure, because every time we visit we find another little gem. Definitely worth more than a dayās visit. We immerse ourselves completely, be it returning jam jars to the greengrocers for the lady who makes incredible jams and chutneys or scouring the shops for unique products to support the local community.
