Excellent, fairly easy cavern to do. Not that many steps but good footwear recommended as steps are wet. Very pretty. Gift shop is also great to look at and some piece of blue John aren't too expensive, plus some nice jewellery with beautiful colours.

Did the self-guided tour on a quiet Saturday morning, staff were pleasant and the tour app had some good information explaining each of the caverns hostory.

It doesn't take too long to get around, even though you can go at your own pace I think most people would struggle to take longer than an hour or so to see everything there is to offer.

There are bits where you need to crouch quite low which can be especially awkward if you're tall, so be warned.

The whole experience was inclusive and fun. The tour lasts about 45 mins and we bought tickets inside the gift shop. I would recommend buying online if you come visit during a school term break or holiday period. Parking is free here and just climb walk about 5 mins to the entrance. Overall, Treak Cliff Cavern offers an engaging and informative experience that combines natural beauty with historical insights. It’s a worth to visit. Just a warmly remind, to wear suitable footwear & warm comfortable clothing, most of the cavern tour floor are wet and beware your head to hit the rock.

Booked this self guided tour a few days before we went and went for an earlier one as you get a discount for an earlybird tour. They made sure we had the app installed so we could get the narration. Very friendly and welcoming and we were told to take as long as we liked.
You could see all the Blue John in the walls and the narration was very good. Was in the mine for about an hour and a half.
A steep walk from the road to the mine (it does state this on the website) and not too many steps in the mine in one go.
Loved that we could go at our own pace and stay where we wanted for as long as we wanted.
We booked the tour primarily to see the Blue John but there are stalactites and stalagmites as well.
The shop is well stocked with Blue John and other minerals.
We would definitely recommend this tour.

Treak Cliff Cavern is a magical experience—stepping inside feels like entering a hidden world of shimmering Blue John stone, dramatic formations, and rich geological history. The self-guided audio tour is both relaxing and informative, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Crafting a piece of Blue John in the workshop adds a personal, memorable touch. And once you’re back above ground, the surrounding hills and views over Castleton make it a perfect spot for a quiet picnic in nature.

The best cavern in Castleton! You explore the caves self-guided so can go at your own pace, and the app gives a great amount of detail and history for you to listen to along the way.

A couple of short sections with low ceilings where you have to watch your head, but the main caverns are big and really atmospheric. You get to see fossils in the stone, stalagmites and stalactites galore, and of course the seams of Blue John crystal itself.

All the staff in the shop and craft area were so friendly. We visited in the school holidays and got to polish up a piece of Blue John crystal each to keep, we highly recommend this option if it's available when you visit.

It is remarkable as it is.
Self-guided tour which was perfect for me.
You can download their app for more information what u can listen or read in the cave.
They have a beautiful gift shop, also coffee shop and benches to sit on.
Parking is aside of the road and you do need to do some walk on stairs and a bit steep walkway to reach them.
Staff is very kind and helpful so feel free to ask them. 😉

The caves are great from the point of view of the things to see. The stalagmites and stalactites are really amazing and the chambers beautiful and fantastic. The facilities are interesting also, the museum with a staggering collection of blue John items, and the shop are great. There is a small booth for stone polishing and waiting I guess and a very small area for some drinks and snacks to be purchased, it's ok. The fact it's located up a fairly unforgiving slope is unfortunate but can't be helped so bear this in mind. Why only 3 points? Well two things. The steps, the many steps, are not very even and are damp making for some tricky moments padding through the cave. This is not really I guess the fault of the cave, steps are steps. What has the fault of the cave is the move from once entertaining tours to the worlds most tedious audio commentary, unengaging, boring repetitive. What makes this worse are people pushing through the tunnels as they skip recording to recording probably because they are bored. For an expensive cave, this is cheap and unacceptable. Turns the experience that was once great into nothing. Not sure I will ever visit again.
