Good quality new car, however poor service. Treated very poorly with bad attitude. Felt like they would have rather I took my business elsewhere. Rude staff who even said 'it's a good job we're accommodating here,' when I said I only had e-copies of my documents. Lots of marks on the car, and the staff insisted on making me identify all of them, and mocking me if I missed something. Major overselling of excess reduction products, which consisted of being patronizing and condescending. Don't bother going here.

I have no idea why this company only has an average of 3.7 stars. My husband spent an hour phoning around the other van hire companies in Carlisle to see if they could accommodate a 6PM pick up. Avis, Enterprise, Arnold Clark, Northern rentals, none of them could accommodate an after hour collection, which is unusual for an industrial city, bearing in mind that most people don't finish work till 5PM. Thrifty clearly has a better business plan by staying open until 6PM. Further to that, the staff member on the phone was very helpful, professional, to the point and did not require information to be repeated like their aforementioned rival companies in the city. The payment went through first time and their prices were half that of Enterprise and Avis. I appreciate this review is merely based on the booking experience but a good first impression is usually an indicator of the service to expect. If the service continues in the same vein I will be using thrifty for any and every car or van hire requirement I need in future and if the service hereafter proves to be below par I will update this review.

I hire many cars but have not used Thrifty at Carlisle before. The documents required were far in excess of any other company and the online process was very outdated. However the big plus was on arrival at Carlisle . Really pleasant staff who were courteous and polite. Upgraded to a BMW Series and all aspects of the car including previous minor damage fully explained. I was impressed.

Wouldn't accept my card, whereas Europcar had no problem with. Besides the gentlemen serving, the rest of the staff were quite rude and not willing to try and help. You'd swear I was doing them a favor by paying then to rent a car
