Wow. We "owned" one whole end of the castle. Full kitchen, huge dining room, 5 rooms with kitchens and sitting rooms, large fire placed warmed "game" room - and we used all of it. Excellent staff, got piped into our stay, took a tour, used the trails (short ones around castle and Southern Upland Way which is connected), walked into Lauder for dinner/beer). In the middle (hour at best) of England/Lindisfarne, Traqhuair House, Tweed River, Melrose, Annandale Distillery, and do on. Looking forward to return.

A really beautiful castle with a fascinating history. We had a brilliant guided tour from Eugene - so informative and entertaining. All the staff we ran into were so friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit.
We visited as a group of friends who work in heritage - and we wish our castle was as beautifully decorated! But ours is a little older!

Thirlestane Castle is an incredible place to visit. The history of the place is truly magnificent. The guide was superb, very knowledgeable and gave a fantastic in depth tour of the castles. There was so much to see and the decor in the rooms was quite magnificent.
Well worth a visit. Superb.

Thirlestane is an absolute must see! Inside the castle is visually amazing from the decor to the paintings to the awesomeness of how well maintained this castle has been kept. It is steeped in history. We had the best tour guide ever - Lesley - whose knowledge knew no bounds and patiently answered all my husband's inquisitive questions! A lovely tea and biscuit is provided at the end of the tour. Thank you.

The pre-booked tour which is the only way to see inside the Castle was superb. Our guide Sue was a delight. Unlike so many stately homes things are not roped off and you can fully immerse yourself in this homely and personal interior, which has interesting artifacts and fine art. The family history associated with so many Royals and Nobles is fascinating.
