A Sunday Well Spent at Standing Stones Hotel

If you’re looking for the perfect place to unwind on a Sunday, the Standing Stones Hotel delivers in spades. I stopped in for their renowned Sunday roast, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Perfectly cooked meat, crispy roast potatoes, and rich, flavorful gravy — every element was spot on. Comfort food done exceptionally well.

What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere. The staff were warm, happy, and genuinely welcoming. It’s rare to find a team that seems to enjoy what they do this much — their friendliness made the whole experience even better.

To top it off, the beer selection was excellent. Cold, fresh, and poured just right. Whether you’re there for the food, the drinks, or just to relax with good company, Standing Stones is well worth the visit.

Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back.

A group of friends were at the Stones Restaurant for Sunday lunch, and we found it to be very friendly, helpful staff, and the food was great and plenty of it all reasonably priced.
Parking and access are great for people who are less able, with the staff helping those less able with their coats.

I can't comment on the rooms because ive not seen them. The food on the other hand I believe the chef hates the customers. Had Sunday lunch here and the portion sizes are like a kids snack. Almost £20 per meal. Save your money and go elsewhere where very expensive too over priced id never eat here again

I was really worried about staying here after reading some of the reviews, though that worry was needless.||We had a double room booked, but the day before we arrived found out that our 13 year old daughter would be unexpectedly joining us. I phoned the hotel in a panic, and the owner/manager was really helpful, and always returned my calls, and we were able to book a second double room.||The location is exactly what we wanted, somewhat isolated but amongst all the sights of neo-lithic Orkney. I guess it may have been a different experience if we didn't have a car, but we did.||Check in was easy, the rooms were clean, and comfortable with good decor. Beds were comfortable enough. The bar was serving evening food on the night we were there. The service was good and the food decent. ||Breakfast was also decent, though as we went down towards the end of the sitting, they were running low on a few things.||There was no member of staff on the reception desk when we left, and the house keeper cleaning the rooms upstairs told me to just leave the keys on the desk, which I did. I cheekily returned to the hotel five hours later to use the toilet as we were passing, and was a bit surprised to see the keys still where I'd left them. I pointed them out to a member of staff who said they hadn't seen them, so I do wonder what would have happened if I hadn't returned for the toilet!||Overall, a nice, clean, comfortable hotel in a very atmospheric location. It did feel somewhat like it had had busier glory days in the past. The bar was very quiet, and the breakfast buffet room was so large that the few breakfast tables in it felt lost. Staff were not always on hand at the front desk, though were available on the phone.

The positives, good location, cosy clean room with nice decor and lovely view of Loch Stenness and Standing Stones.|Unfortunately there was nobody at reception on arrival just a mobile number to phone which we did and the call went to voice mail. When someone did appear we did not receive a warm welcome.|The cooked breakfast was very anaemic the bacon and sausage looked as if they had been steamed. The continental selection was adequate on the first morning, but on the second morning most things had run out and were not replenished !!|Poor value for money. Would not recommend.
