Thank you for your hospitality, you made us feel right at home -- and really as if we were in someone's home rather than at a B&B!

Everything was in its right place and every element looks purposeful, arranged with taste and precision. Talking about taste, the breakfast was delicious (I really recommend Sarah's scrambled eggs!)

We have already recommended you to several people potentially travelling to the area.

It was a true delight! We will be back again in future.

This is the third time we have visited this pub and this last visit did not disappoint.|We are group of mainly retired lawyers, doctors, surveyors and architects who meet for walks roughly monthly. We were a group of ten who arrived for bacon rolls and coffees/teas at 08.30, walked Hambledon Hill and then the former Somerset and Dorset railway line back through the preserved Shillingstone station and thence back to The Saxon Inn, where we had a splendid lunch (the crab salad was delightful) Nothing was too much trouble for Sarah and her helpful team. Well done all! Thoroughly recommended.

We stayed here 4 nights in the Super Kingsize bedroom. Overlooking the garden. Very peaceful stay. The garden is used by guests on Wednesday-Sunday lunchtime. Other days the restaurant & bar is closed. Sarah is extremely accommodating to any requests ie:- breakfast to staying guests on closed days. |Sarah is a wonderful host who made us feel so welcome & her food is so tasty. No one gets out hungry from here!|The decor & furniture is cosy & homely. It’s in a cute little village which gives easy access to surrounding areas. We had such a lovely stay here.|I would definitely recommend people to stay & use the restaurant.

A bit of a squeeze to get into the car park, but what a charming little pub tucked away in a charming Dorset village. Having read other reviews & some valid points both positive and negative, here's mine. The staff last night were brilliant, from bar staff to the table service. Inside not only was the Inn full of character, it was spotless, including the all important toilets & it's customers all very polite. The all important menu was limited, but everyone should be able to find something they liked or could try, but from experience this will mean freshly cooked & more importantly "of good quality". Someone mentioned the cut of meat for the steak, I had the T bone which was good, but not brilliant & my advise would certainly be to stick with a smaller sirlion or fillet. Two others had scallops & the lamb that were delicious. The veg cooked to perfection and the chips perfect, bar possibly being slightly over salted for me, but that's a personal choice & I'm sure most would have been more than happy. There was mention of the cost of some asparagus in a review, here I see both sides of the coin. Yes of course we can all see what it costs in a supermarket, but all these public houses have had an increase in cost, from labour to energy to rates & if we don't use them , we will lose them. Finally, it goes without saying ,the owners are obviously trying extremely hard to make their business work & I for one wish them all the success they thoroughly deserve, plus they have my upmost respect for detail & the effort they all put in "FOR OUR BENEFIT". Lovely pub, but unfortunately it's so overpriced! it's uncomfortable.
Actually almost as uncomfortable as the chairs.
Nice atmosphere and decor.

If you want to charge the prices you do you NEED to back it up with amazing service, much much better quality cuts of meet.
Selling a cut of the day steak for premium value and delivering a minute steak is poor show and the most expensive thing on the menu not to come with a side. You charged me £12.50 for 5 heads of Asparagus!!!
All your prices online are cheaper.

When we arrived there was no one behind the bar and I eneded up standing there for over 15 minutes to get served my drinks whilst staff clearly saw me.

Feel a bit hacked off that we spent so much money on such little, poor quality food.

Profiteering in my opinion.

We wish we went to the clock spire for these prices.

On a charity cycle ride to raise money for a friend and colleague, Sarah went out of her way to help us, she was generous, open and receptive, with inspired and atmospheric interior design, a wonderful menu, all beautifully cooked (by her), the rooms were excellent, comfy beds, with again lovely interior decorations.
And above all that, one of our party left a jacket with all of her payment cards in, and Sarah drove to the next village to meet us and reunite it with its owner!
Truely outstanding!
We thoroughly recommend this tucked out of the way, calm and peaceful place, created with love.

Can't rate the rooms as we didn't stay, but the post-funeral party we had at The Saxon Inn was excellent! Great home made food served by a friendly and helpful team. Thank you Sarah for being so accommodating on what was otherwise a sad day for us. And thanks to Ishbel and Rebecca for looking after us all so well.

Absolutely delicious food and wonderful staff that went above and beyond making sure we had a table large enough for our big party. We had the roast lunch and the fish of the day which were fantastic.
