😊: Staff very friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Didn't eat there but evening meals (pub grub) looked ok. Lovely building but definitely in need of a lot of TLC.
😢: Shower over bath was hard to regulate temperature, there was no safety mat and no grab handles to assist getting in/out of bath safely. No private parking at all just park on the road wherever you can. Bed wasn't made just left although clean towels were left. Hall/stairs carpet was not in the best condition. Room was very noisy at night, sounded like a loud fan running all night..

Visited for lunch and had the set two course lunch. We enjoyed prawn cocktail & pate starters followed by fish & chips. Excellent value and attentive service - highly recommend. Beautiful old building with heavy timbers and wood panelling

😊: Loved the building, does need a bit of a touch up on paintwork, especially on doors and skirting, lots of scuff marks so makes it look grubby. Food and staff were great..
😢: Room was ok, but not worth £130. Lack of privacy in the room as there was a massive front window which overlooked the high street, there was no net on this window so the public could see in, we checked this. Although there were curtains, these made the room very dark when drawn, there was no centre light in the ceiling only 1 wall light by the door, which wasnt ideal when getting ready as room was quite dark. The room was clean but due to the lack of light and privacy I would not stay in that room again..

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for one night, and have to say very impressed. I am confused of the negative reviews I have seen, but my experience was out of this world.||On our arrival, we were greeted by Claire (manager), Suba (owner) and Kandy (owner). We booked a Lion signature room, and no concerns. Very clean, facilities as described, and very nice powerful shower!||||Food and service during breakfast, lunch and dinner was exemplary. Staff went out of their way to ensure we were happy.||||I have stayed in the best hotels in the world, and have to say this place should be above 3 stars....very difficult to get good service these days.||||Keep up the good work.

Midweek visit with mates for a drink. Parked right outside. Nice feel about the place inside for a proper old school pub. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Just a shame they stop serving food at 8pm, which seems a little early. Crisps and nuts saved the day.

Nice welcome from receptionist and the bar area looks well kept, this lures you into thinking that the rest of the hotel will be equally nice, so I paid for my accommodation, collected my key, big mistake!|Enter the stairwell and you see all is tired and old, carpets in communal areas such as stairs and landings appeared to be decades old, this gives the traveller a sinking feeling, having just handed over payment. My initial feelings were, unfortunately, correct, big disappointment as I opened the bedroom door. The room was overlooking the busy main street, furniture in bedroom was very tired, bathroom fittings were equally drab. No remote for TV|I returned to reception asking for a better and quieter room, this was not an option, so I asked for my money back. Refund was refused, I needed a good night's sleep, so I checked out anyway and then booked in to the Holiday Inn at Huntington Racecourse for only a few £s more.|Lesson learnt, read reviews, ideally ask to see the room before committing.

Absolutely diabolical.||We waited and waited for service as they were busy "fixing" music system!! No one else in the restaurant and was kept waiting for the drinks ,which one was missing for almost half an hour.||When the starters arrived we had no cutlery! ||The barboy/person was breaking/smashing bottles in the bin behind the bar.||Prawn salad 3 prawns cut in half and rock hard unripe avocado. When it was mentioned the waitress 'Claire' shrugged and walked away. No apology.||Then mains came ,also no new cutlery, cold mash, sausage and congealed gravy. Also when this was mentioned CLAIRE told ME I was being rude. How dare you speak to a customer like that?!||As for the soggy crumble..well...||We have as a Buckden family have been using this restaurant for 50 plus years.||And we have all worked in the service. I was bar manager here for two years.||Disgraceful.||When it was mentioned that we would never return the answer was .. oh ok.

On the whole we enjoyed our stay with friendly staff and a laid back atmosphere. Nice feature room. What we didn't like was the heating turned off at night on one of coldest nights of the year to save costs. Waiting ages for the hot water to come through, needs pumping. The state of the carpet in the hallway and landing areas! It all needs replacing and redecorating. It is a lovely building could be so nice. Needs some money spending on it...
