The Elephant Hotel - Reading

We arrived here early and they were able to accommodate us with an early check in. Our room was large and to our delight contained a king bed. The room was clean and well maintained, something that you don’t take for granted in the older hotels along the Thames Path. The property is on a main road in Pangbourne and close to restaurants and shops. However, there wasn’t any air conditioning but the with open windows the room stayed comfortable even during the day. However, the bright lights and the road noise made it very difficult to sleep even wearing ear plugs and a night shade.

We had a wonderful time using The Elephant for our wedding.
Claire and the team were all so helpful in the lead up to and on the day of the wedding. Nothing seemed to much for any of them. Any time we had any questions they were promptly answered.
The ceremony and reception room looked gorgeous as did the garden for all the photos.
The rooms are all to a very good quality; comfy, clean and spacious, all our guests said the same.

We look forward to returning in the future 😊

We had our wedding at The Elephant in May 2025. From our first meeting, Claire was so communicative and responsive, she really listened to exactly what we wanted, and helped us find ways to bring that to life. ||On the day, Claire and the team were absolutely fantastic - nothing was too much trouble, we and all of our guests felt so looked after, and the decor was stunning. ||Truly, we cannot recommend Claire, Luxe Design, or The Elephant highly enough. We are so happy that we chose The Elephant for our wedding - it was genuinely the best day ever!

My husband and I stayed for one night on Thursday, we were welcomed by Emma who was so helpful, she changed our room to one on the ground floor and helped us with our heavy case round to our room. With a door out to a terrace and the garden, the room was really comfortable on a hot day. I had dinner in the restaurant which was an extremely succulent steak. Our bed was very comfortable with extra pillows. We had a very good breakfast which put us on for our 200 mile journey home. Thank you Emma and the other staff for making our stay so enjoyable.

Nice little room in a very well connected location with a friendly welcome when we got there. The hotel seemed such good value for money, but unfortunately the nights sleep we had really let it down. The room was incredibly noisy, with what seemed like a boiler in our bathroom that fired up periodically, and sounded like our room was going to take off all night. Would have brought this up with reception, but the girl checking us out was frosty to say the least. ||On another note we absolutely cannot fault the restaurant for both our evening meal and breakfast! The staff were very attentive and the food really was excellent

We hired the Elephant as exclusive use for our wedding at the end of June and we are so glad we did. Our wedding was perfect! The weather was boiling and so the air con in the cermony room was much needed. The garden looked lovely and waa well used by our guests. Food was lovely. Claire and Steven were great and communication was brilliant throughout. The Elephant gave us the wedding we wanted! Thank you

A great hotel with friendly staff and very helpful.|Room was very clean and comfy, great shower. Comfy bed and a good sized room.|Best steak I have had in a good while cooked on a grill in the restaurant. ||Good sized bar and a big garden||Excellent value for money and would definitely stay again if passing.

Great staff, great service, great location and great food.

Room size sufficient for regular travel and luggage; in case of oversized baggage, like a bike-box, they provide secure storage in their garage. This was fine for me, although I have been in larger and more modern properties - hence 4 stars. Events like weddings in the property may disturb some people; in my case, I was informed at the time of booking, so my expectations were calibrated.
