1st time I’ve eaten at the Cods Scallops this evening. Ordered the cod & chips with sides of mushy peas & curry sauce all washed down with their own “Scale Ale” beer and have to say I was seriously impressed. Delicious and generously portioned fresh fillet of cod in a very light crispy batter, chips golden brown and crisp with a light fluffy centre. Just the way they should be! Mushy peas were just like grandma used to make! Absolutely delicious! All cooked fresh and piping hot! These guys know how to do it right! Absolutely Delicious! Top marks to the Cods Scallops! Very happy customer and will be back soon!

The food was poor for the price, £14.90 for large cod that was definitely not large, small pot of mushy peas and regular chips, however not to say it tasted the worst I’ve had. Do I feel ripped off ? A fair bit, especially with all their advertising of greatness and misleading ‘large Cod’. Mind you, alot do that now, look at Scarborough. Compared to others up north I’ve tried they’re very average, maybe I should give 5 stars to some of my other fish n chip reviews on 4. 🙂 Nothing tasted terrible, it’s just not worth the hype. When I can get twice as better easily for a much reasonable price elsewhere..

Went here for food after a relaxing spa day with a friend, we were impressed! The food was delicious, especially the cod. The batter was amazing!! The staff were also very friendly and the restaurant clean. Would definitely make a return visit.

We visited here recently after watching the Long Eaton carnival, having plenty of seating to choose from.

Staff members were very accommodating and showing us to our seats and then got a highchair for us. After getting comfy, we the staff member came over to take our order, We went for two mini fish and chip deals and a kids meal. The kids meal was right on the price point, including a drink, main meal and desert. We chose the fish finger and chips, to our surprise the fish fingers were huge, including chips in a mini sand bucket. For the kids dessert we went for ice cream in a pot.

Staff throughout were very attentive to our needs and everywhere was spotless. We will definitely be visiting here again in the future.

Very good fish and chips restaurant.

Would have got 5 stars, but.

They got two things wrong with our order. The wrong wine was served and we didn't get everything we ordered. Also, the chips varied in size and the smaller ones were incredibly hard.

Apart from that, service was friendly and quick, and food was very tasty.

Had a lovely meal here after a relaxing afternoon at the spa.
Really enjoyed the baked cod. My friend had the salad, I wish I had too as it looked so nice.
We'll be back when we're next in the area.

We had sea bass and monk fish, so it should have been lovely, but unfortunately, the fish had been stood a while, so the oil had soaked into the bottom of the batter, also the chips were old so instead of flash frying them to freshen them up, they had been left in the basket, so while still being warm they were not the freshest! £38 for 2, not well spent. Please get staff who can cook fish and chips!!

Absolutely amazing... we have now tried all 3 shops and this one did not fail us. The freshness of the fish and the thin light crispy batter omg so yum!
I tried the cod then plaice and you can clearly taste the different and the freshness in both of them. Although we came here for the monk fish but they didn’t have it today along with few others. Oysters were so so small, whelks not the big one we expected and was a little sandy, the tarter sauce tasted a bit off so we stop eating that.

Overall it was really good especially we tried the one in Leicester which cost the same but it was the worse chippy ever... that’s why we cherish this one a lot more now after that poor one lol

Total bill came to £36 for a lunch which was not bad.
The price has certainly gone up and the portion slightly reduced but I don’t mind paying for the amazing taste at all! Still the best by far!
