We stayed overnight on the exceptional midweek DBB deal which included the 7 course tasting menu. ||Our room was small but perfectly adequate and spotlessly clean, with a comfortable bed. Still and sparkling water, tea and coffee bags, homemade biscuits and fresh milk were really appreciated.||The meal was very, very good and excellent value. We loved all the innovative flavour pairings and imaginative use of ingredients. Better than some Michelin starred menus we have tried. Breakfast was great too.

We stayed originally at the Black Bull in autumn 2023 and were very impressed then, so decided to return. We were not disappointed. We think this is a really excellent pub and restaurant. The food is very good, uses top quality local ingredients and is very interesting. There is an excellent wine list with lots of choice and options to buy wine by the glass. We chose the tasting menu, which included some amazing sashimi, great beef and lovely puddings. The atmosphere in the pub with its roaring fire and traditional feel is very welcoming. We had a lovely room, with a very comfortable bed and great bathroom. Staff are attentive and friendly. The pub also has great midweek offers which represent excellent value for money.

Been a long time coming but finally got to the Black Bull for Sunday Lunch on my birthday.|Food was fantastic, really enjoyed it. We both had the beef. All of the food was extremely well cooked, which I expected due to knowing a bit about the chef.|Service was great, pub itself is lovely.|Would recommend to anyone wanting a good Sunday Roast

Thanks to Nina and James for a brilliant experience. We stayed 3 nights sampling pie night, the tasting menu and the incredible roast dinner. ||The room was exquisite and the breakfast utterly delicious with great ingredients and a good set of options.||All the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. I can’t wait to come back and I will be telling everyone I know that they have to visit.

We had the pleasure of a cheeky 1 night stay away and booked this beautiful hotel with taster menu after a recommendation from a colleague. The hotel is lovely and the attention to detail is amazing from welcome cookies to cafetiere coffee lovely touches.|The bar and restaurant are both lovely and the service is outstanding attentive and knowledgeable without being pretentious. I can whole heartedly recommend the taster menu as a special treat alongside the wine pairing again outstanding quality and beautifully presented. Breakfast was superb again with an exceptional level of service and food amazing.|This is a fabulous hotel and restaurant and your colleagues should be commended for their warm hospitable service. This is a review for the restaurant and hotel.|We visited the Black Bull in July with our dog and really loved both our stay in the hotel and our meal in the restaurant. It’s an extremely dog friendly hotel which is perfect for us as we are able to bring our whippet along with us.|Often when you return to a place that you have previously enjoyed it never quite lives up to the memory of the previous visit which can be disappointing.|We arrived earlier than check in time at the Black Bull but our intention was to go and walk the dog until the room was ready. We had a coffee in the bar and were told that our room was ready if we needed it. We decided to go for a walk first anyway though it was great to have the option.|The room was lovely. Big bed. Lovely bathroom with a tub. Welcome pack for the dog. It’s small things but providing bowls for the dog is very handy. A bed is also provided along with some treats. It like the dog isn’t just tolerated but fully welcomed.|We ate at the restaurant that night.on our first visit we were bowled over with the food and service. This time I feel it was even better. The service is perfect. Friendly and warm. Not stuffy. Just right for us.|The meal was just fantastic. Such a varied menu. We had the home made bread with cultured butter (a must have). For our starters we had Skate which I hadn’t had for years. Amazing. Also have crispy Korean beef which was incredibly moreish. |For our main we has a tomahawk sharing steak. This came with beef dripping chips, roasted tomatoes and greens. Every element of this dish was fantastic. The well charred but rare steak just bursting with beefy flavour. The beef dripping chips were simply delicious but it was the tomatoes which took the dish to another planet. Hard to explain how a simple tomato side dish can taste so good. Spicy and somehow savoury. I couldn’t stop eating them.|It was simply and exceptional meal. So, so happy we came back.

We booked for four people on the Thursday and 8pm the Friday. We had to pay a deposit of £20pp. If I had not had done this we definitely would not have gone back in the Friday! The menu is trying to be something it shouldn’t. Restaurant was empty and we were out through at the back. The atmosphere non existent and then tried to charge us £28 for food and drinks we had not had! Overall very disappointed and we will not be back despite coming to Sedbergh now regularly. So disappointed.

Had a terrible roast meal here

Fatty lamb, fried roast potatoes, gravy so salty you could walk on it, purple broccoli that turned up green, lukewarm Yorkshire puddings and carrots that were too hard to cut never mind eat.
Slow service and also when you arrive they offer you water before you sit down - you think that it is complimentary - it's not. It is £5 for each jug.
