We attended a wedding here (did not stay overnight) and were really impressed. The venue and facilities are beautiful and very well kept. The food was excellent and the desserts just as good. The terrace and garden are wonderful, especially in summer — a perfect setting for an event.

It’s a bit far from town, but easily accessible by car or taxi, and the surrounding area has plenty of scenic hiking trails, making it a great spot to enjoy the countryside.

Really lovely 3-night stay at the Bear. Room a comfortable size for two people with big walk in shower. Had a nice view over the common, greeted by the cows out the window each morning. Lots of good walks nearby and close to cute villages. Nice base for rambling about, even without a car

My husband and I have just returned from our 2nd visit to this hotel. We cannot fault it at all. Its a lovely old building with many lovely little cozy areas to sit if its not so nice outside. If it is nice outside then the outdoor area is fabulous. We had nothing but excellent service from every member of staff we spoke to. The food is very good with great portion sizes. Vegetarians are well catered for at breakfast. Maybe less so on the main menu but there are plenty of fish options. We had room number 1 which is a suite and the addition of a 'living' space was extremely useful for us. Whilst there we walked across the common into Stroud and along the canal to Stroud Brewery which we would highly recommend - great food, drinks and service.

I should make it clear that the review is for the restaurant facility rather than the hotel.||This is a Fullers owned restaurant. Chiswick.. my old stomping ground of west London.||So the beer is great but so was the food. I would only say that portion size is an issue. Fish and chips is top class. Good sized portion. I have had the Stone Bass (lovely but meagre portions) and the Basil Polenta (lots going on in flavour terms but not all of it should be on the same plate … albeit a small one). I would go for the fish and chips which were first class and a decent portion.||Young staff eager to please and very friendly.||Pizza available as well. Nice garden and outside dining when the weather is good. |.||Had to work around a wedding party even though we booked over a month in advance. Staff managed the mother of the bride who was on a mission to claim the entire estate as her own very well indeed!!

Lovely place, with friendly staff and great views. We were having lunch in the garden when about 10 uninvited wasps appeared and tried to share the food! So I called the waitress over, who quickly moved us inside without hesitation. - Thank you

Visited today for lunch. We had the fixed price menu 3 courses for £27. The food was exceptional. I had the courgette and pea soup, chicken and chocolate delice. The best meal I've had in a long time, which was great to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary, in the place we had our reception, which was also fab! Thank you 😊

An excellent 3 day stay. Great employees at all levels that I encountered...... Enthusiastic, welcoming, attentive, hard-working. Excellent location with great views from some rooms and impressive vistas just a short walk away. Rooms were clean and decently furnished. Beer selection and food quality were moderately good. I'd definitely stay at the Bear again.

My wife and I were thoroughly happy with our stay, which exceeded our expectations on so many levels.||The room and bed were great and very comfortable. We liked the extra touches like the Molton Brown soaps and the Nespresso machine.||The food was very good, especially the full English and Vegetarian breakfast were top notch, far better than at many 5 star hotels we stay at.||But for us the best thing was the staff, so many youngsters, but they were all excellent, friendly, helpful and if they didn’t know something, they went and found out.||We will definitely go back and highly recommend the Bear.
