I took part in the introduction to harnesses course. It was brilliant. I learnt about the different harnesses for working and driving ponies. Evie and Bob, the ponies, were very patient with me as I literally learnt the ropes. And Karen was the perfect teacher - very supportive, encouraging and not at all patronising or intimidating. I joined Ancient Trails for my first post-lockdown hike and camp during Easter school holidays. The entire experience was positive, wholesome and mentally renewing. The ponies are extremely well-trained, well-mannered and sweet whilst remaining working animals who know their jobs. Karen and her partner are extremely professional and I felt safe around the ponies at all times.
The walk was carefully planned and both guides knew lots of history and facts about the local area. When we arrived at the campsite we all got a gorgeous Ploughmans hamper of local produce and fresh seedy bread, which we ate around the fire with a bottle of cider. Next time I'll be bringing hot chocolate and whiskey! I opted for the breakfast supplement and I was excited to cook my own bacon and eggs over a wood fire.
In advance of the walk I felt very comfortable contacting Karen with any questions I had, and the information she provided was clear and useful. They are also very open to feedback on ways to improve future walks, and are clearly taking on board all ways to upgrade the experience of their guests.
I would recomment this adventure to anyone who loves walking and who may be looking to learn more about horses and working ponies.

We had a fantastic morning with Karen and her ponies Evie and Bob. We loved every minute of our experience from the pre walk instruction to walking in the most beautiful countryside alongside Evie and Bob. Karen was kind and knowledgeable. Really enjoyable half day spent walking with Bob and Evie the Ancient Trails horses. Not forgetting Karen their charming owner.
Walking through beautiful Dorset countryside taking in the surrounding nature and scenery. We finished off with a scrummy picnic supplied by Karen. Thanks for the relaxing, never to be forgotten day Karen.

We had the most amazing weekend walking the ancient trails. Karen and Mark were so attentive to all the details which made it so relaxing and enjoyable. Evie and Bob (the ponies) make the walk that much more special and carried everything for us. The camp is beautiful and secluded. Our own little bit of wild. The food was delicious. Thank you for a memorable weekend. We've booked our next one.
