Now this was a nice old fashioned place to say. Loads of character.
A little dated and some would call tired looking but it was well worth the stay and the price.
Staff were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The locals in the bar were as well.
Food was Excellent. Evening meals were good and so we're the breakfasts.
An excellent place for the fisherman of you to stay with local Gillies in the bar after work.
I will use the Tayside again without a doubt if I am up that way again.

Stayed quite a few times now. The rooms are extremely large, quiet and comfortable with great beds and bathrooms. Very clean. Food is very good and most of all the staff are absolutely fantastic. Everyone is helpful, friendly and kind. The hotel is dog friendly, but you would never know a dog had been in the rooms. Would definitely recommend, and looking forward to going back.

Excellent base for fishermen, tourists and those wanting a break. After a long day on the river or travelling, comfortable rooms and tasty food await. Joe and her staff are excellent and will go the extra mile to make your stay as relaxing as possible. Great choice for breakfast will set you up for the day. Always an enjoyable stay.

Arriving in the rear car-park didn't give the best impression of the hotel - very messy with full bins, tatty sheds and generally unkept. The outside of the hotel was also tatty and bordered on unclean. However, things improved inside. Yes it's an old hotel and a little worn in places, but quite grand and very clean and tidy. Our room was large (No.4) and comfortable.|The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and so were the locals in the bar! Nice food, and we needed an early breakfast to catch a ferry and that was easily accommodated.|Tayside - just give the grounds a bit of TLC - it would work wonders!

The hotel is very dated, dark and dingy, it’s in real need of a renovation. The smell of cigarette smoke on the first floor landing was disgusting, this was coming from a door with no number, so perhaps owners/staff quarters? The beds were uncomfortable, definitely time for the mattresses to be replaced. The blind in the bathroom was torn and the curtains in the bedroom were poorly fitting. When plugged in the kettle did not reach the top of the drawers, so had to be boiled on the floor. The breakfast was good and the lady serving it was lovely.

"Don't judge a book by it's cover" definitely applies to this hotel as the carpark has a row of tumbledown lock-up garages filled with junk which I assume are owned by the nearby houses.||Luckily, the hotel itself is a different story, they've been renovating and the top-floor rooms are all newly fitted out. The main stairway up to the second floor is quite steep, something to bear in mind. The room I was initially offered had only a bath with shower attachment on taps, but I was re-allocated room 9 without fuss which has a walk-in electric shower. Room had almost everything expected, wardrobe, armchair, chest-of-drawers etc. however 3-pin mains sockets are sparse. No air-con of course, but the room and bathroom windows opened to give plenty of ventilation.||TBH there's not many dining options in Stanley, however the evening meal and breakfast were both very nice, plus the beer is well kept. Evening meals are 'pub grub' with choices such as soup, prawn Marie Rose, steak pie, lasagne, fudge brownie etc. Service was prompt and the food was tasty and piping hot, all the staff I met were pleasant and helpful. ||In addition to the lounge bar/dining room there's a public bar with snooker table which seemed popular with non-residents. This is definitely a hotel for tourists, the WiFi speed was at the lower end and there was no desk for a laptop (at least in my room). ||Price was moderate, I paid about Β£70 for B&B midweek and the evening meal with drinks was around Β£25 a head with drinks.
