Great place to visit, loverly walks nearby, however, if you are driving the access road is very steep and narrow, big problem if you meet someone coming the other way and not a lot of parking.

My partner and I visited this today, set next to a wonderful looking quarry, very picturesque, great trails to hike, and a decent array of places to eat and drink. I would have liked to have seen it at night as well and this is supposedly a wonder to behold. I am sure we will be revisiting again to see it all lit up.

We parked down in Wirksworth and walked up. It's a road so easy to walk on but very steep walk up there. Lovely spot at the top to visit the Star Disc. We went in the day so didn't see it lit up but still nice visit. There are other walks to do through Stoney Woods

Really impressive public art and working amphitheatre, has a compass set in a stone telling you the nearest elevations and nearest cities and then the "stone circle" has all the constellations of the night sky in the middle showing you where they are relative to where you're standing and distance to the sun! Also absolutely stunning views, even if I had to stop halfway up my hike there! Would recommend doing the journey up from Wirksworth, I parked at Black Rocks and walked through the Stone Center which was a great walk but very tiring!

Amazing spot to visit at all times of the day, very hidden. Not the easiest place to get to by car but worth the extra effort. Even better when the lights used to work at night, hoping it gets fixed soon.

Been meaning to come here for a couple of years now and finally made it on a damp, grey day. The weather did not hamper a truly beautiful experience. The Star Disc itself is informative and stunning. The rest of Stoney Wood has been wonderfully managed, with the inclusion of the incredible Infinity Loop of stones, a huge fire pit and a sweet little labyrinth which I took great pleasure in walking.

There was much bird song and the woodland is clearly being carefully managed to encourage wildlife.

An absolute joy to visit and I'll come again many times, hopefully including trips in summer sunshine, when the view from the Star Disc will be a panoramic delight.

NB - people with mobility difficulties are likely to find this place somewhat inaccessible. It sits in an old mine, so is by nature steep and difficult to traverse. You can go in from the bottom to look up, but it would probably be quite hard to get to the top, even if approaching from the high road.

StarDisc is an illuminated 21st century stone circle created by Aidan Shingler. It spans 12 meters (40 ft). Carved into black granite is a star chart that mirrors the northern hemisphere’s night sky. The surface of the stone circle is inscribed with the constellations, their names and a depiction of the Milky Way. Contrasting with the star chart is a perimeter of silver granite on which 12 stone seats are positioned; the seats denote the months of the year.

It was very peaceful. The trees need pruning back as block alot of the sky when sat up on the platform. Huge disappointment that the lights didn't work on it. Solar panel obviously broken.
