Warm comfortable stay in the studio, everything you need although the grounds and accommodation need some tlc. Lovely fresh linen on the bed and luxury fluffy towels. Breakfast was fantastic although the high price for the room should have included the breakfast. Hosts warm friendly and welcoming. I really wouldnt let the bad reviews put you off visiting this lovely Hall.

We're not history buffs, so the connection with Shakespeare didn't particularly appeal to us. We stayed 2 nights. Room was nice, bed very comfy, and the en suite was fine. Met John, and his son, Tim who run the farm and the hall. Breakfast was ok, not the best we've ever had. We had to pay £15 pp, per breakfast, and £15 per night for having our dog in the room, all extras. But our dog was not allowed in the breakfast room. They haven't had a chef for many months, so there was no facility for evening meals there, which we'd already known, and made alternative arrangements for. My husband was told that if we wanted a drink, and although there's a bar in the "basement" we weren't encouraged to visit, and we had to let them know what we'd like to drink, in advance!|On day 2, we returned to our room, after being out all day, only to find the door had been left unlocked. Reason given was that they had been in to change our towels, and had left their room key inside the room. Now, we're a well travelled couple, and have stayed in many different sorts of places, but we won't be revisiting Soulton Hall, I'm afraid. Wasn't worth what we paid for 2 nights. And it should not really be classified dog-friendly, more like "dogs tolerated, but only in the bedroom". Hmmm..

A very enjoyable stay in this historic 16th century country hall. We received a warm welcome and historic overview from Tim on arrival. The room is not 4 star in the traditional sense but it is unique, charming, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty and cooked to request by John and Ann, the warm and engaging hall hosts. Overall, a very authentic honest friendly experience and good value for money.

This place is full of history and the owners are only too happy to share their knowledge with you. It isn’t a “corporate cocktails” type of venue. It’s a historic building and a quirky but fascinating stay. I’ve read the reviews and if you want corporate there are plenty of hotels delivering just that and this isn’t one of them. However, if you want something a little different with a great breakfast this will suit you. My fear is that we are running out of places like - perhaps we need to be careful what we wish for!!

I stay away for most of the time, I wanted a somewhat peaceful trip this time round. I stayed away for 2 nights. I really recommend this place if you’re looking for peaceful visit and with lots of historical meaning and beautiful scenery, for me I found it very special and interesting. The owners actually spent the time to talking to you and not just here just for your money. I was blown away by the room, very spacious with a 4 poster bed and a choice of a shower and a bath. My only criticism is they didn’t do evening meals which wasn’t an issue for me, as a delivery for food is an option or local six minute drive to the nearest shop. Overall it was a pleasant stay and I would gladly come back again next year

We booked here for a surprise for our mom’s 70th birthday with the family. |We had arranged an overnight stay with evening meal and breakfast a while back as we had been here in the past for meals and really enjoyed ourselves ||We had seen some very recent reviews and were a little concerned and this was heightened when we were told that they had stopped doing evening meals now. Oh dear was our first thought.||We were greeted by Tim who runs the farm and hall with his parents, Ann and John.|He made us feel welcome immediately- we sat in the back room where the bar used to be when told they had stopped doing evening meals as costing too much to keep chef - for obvious reasons ! But, as we had booked a while back when they were still providing meals they were honouring our full booking. This was good news but we were still a little worried as who would cook? ||Anyway we were served tea with madeleines ( and can say all done properly!) and we were given code to the Barrow to walk over to later - we did this as that was a lovely wander over to that and was beautiful setting to see||We had agreed our meal for 7.00pm- slightly later though than agreed but we did have a selection of staters, mains and desserts- we had wine (stock is a little depleted now as no longer a restaurant as such) but we did have 2 exceptional wines with our meal||The food was cooked by Ann (assume John and Tim helped ) with John and Tim serving - and wow Ann can cook up a storm ! Was really fantastic food - all of us enjoyed our meal - roasted pork with trimmings and duck which was really tender- lovely veg. Our desserts were fabulous as well (the chocolate and red velvet gateau was sublime).||Our rooms were fabulous, old and full of history. All were clean - yes a few flies on window sill but that is what happens with windows and countryside- but they weren’t all over the place ! And the rooms all were clean - Beds really comfy with lovely crisp white bedding , and the en-suites clean with everything you need, hairdryer and tv along with tea and coffee - it was just what you want ! ||Breakfast was lovely as well - nice selection of cereal, we had tea and coffee and orange juice if wanted - yes it was assumed all wanted full English, but we are sure if someone wanted say scrambled egg on toast you would get that! We knew Ann would be cooking and we had been told she had not long had an op on her feet - so she must have been in some discomfort - but again Ann and family came through- the sausage and bacon were really tasty. Plenty of toast as well provided||Afterwards we meet Ann and she told us some of the history of the Hall and there is so much to this amazing family home - which is what this is first and foremost- a lovely and much loved family home. ||Yes this isn’t a 5 star hotel and there is the worry that Ann and John may find this difficult to manage but from what we saw and experienced we feel some reviews here have been a little unfair - we had a really good and honest stay with really good home cooking - and Mom loved it (maybe the huge room with four poster bed swings it a little ) which is the most important thing for us ||Thank you Tim, Ann and John - oh and fingers crossed for the book ( we can’t wait to get hold of a copy so we can find out all what you couldn’t tell us!) hopefully you may get some answers as well

This is a beautiful manor house from the 1500s, furnished with period furniture. Very comfortable bedrooms with modern updated bathrooms. A full English breakfast is provided in a cozy dining room/den. The owners are lovely people, very friendly and exceedingly helpful! The country setting is tranquil. It would be helpful to have a rental car, as the closest town is a few miles away and the narrow roads would not be safe to walk.
