I chose the Smithfield Hotel for an overnight stay close to all the main Neolithic sites. I had a friendly welcome on arrival and a comfortable room with a large bathroom and a great shower. I especially appreciated the hotel catering for my food preferences with a lovely vegan breakfast.

This is not a hotel. It's a bed and breakfast with no other facilities. I arrived today, having stayed here on four previous occasions. Was disgusted when told on arrival that I would need to travel for miles elsewhere to eat. I like a beer after my food, so that means a taxi both ways. By anybodies expectations, a hotel will at least serve evening meals and have a bar. Pathetic! Room is ok though, but my food and drink offering is what I can buy from the tiny supermarket across the road and cook using water from the kettle. Then eat with no cutlery.

Lovely wee hotel staff were very nice place adsa just over road would love to be able to stay again the owner was so helpful great value for money Lovely breakfast would definitely stay again if was same owner there is a beautiful church just down road a wee bit with a wonderful ministers husband and wife Lovely place for a wedding

Whilst the hotel at present does not have a bar or a restaurant, it is a superb B & B and caters for your every comfort. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the bedrooms/bathrooms clean and bright, and the breakfast choices excellent. There is a supmarket opposite if you wish to purchase nibbles or drink. It is 10 mins drive to Stromness and half an hour to Kirkwall, max. You can eat locally at another hotel also. Safe car-parking at the back. |I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again or recommend it.

Stayed here about a year and a half ago and realized I never left a review. Accepted us on extremely short notice after a horrible experience at a previous hotel, did all of our laundry for cheap, and were some of the most accommodating people we met on our entire trip to Scotland. They saved our stay in Orkney, which ended up being a highlight for me and my fiancé.

We had two evening meals and were pleased with the menu. Better than basic pub meals. Some lovely flavours. Very helpful to cater for my vegan wife. Food nice and hot and staff very friendly |Only negative was being charge £5 (yes ! ) for a large Lemonade from a syrup hose dispenser. Didn’t taste at all good. The beer was cheaper but I don’t drink. Had water the following night served nice and cold from a nice stoneware bottled.

Had dinner in the restaurant at The Smithfield last night, service and food excellent. I am on a gluten, dairy and egg free diet and my choices were incredible.Very good menu. I had the Skara Brae burger without a bun (my choice) with dairy free cheese, mushroom, onion and bacon. It came with the freshest most delicious salad, beetroot relish, 2 hash browns and chips. Absolutely yummy. The Orkney beef is very good. I thoroughly enjoyed it and ate every bit. My friend had a delicious pasta dish and my Mum a steak, all thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend.
