The tour was okay overall, but not quite what we expected based on all the glowing 5-star reviews. Josh, our guide, was great guide, energetic and put a lot of effort into his storytelling, but for our family traveling with kids, the humor and stories just didn’t land.

The tour covers a few landmarks and ends at The Shambles (a charming street often linked to Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley), but many of the stops felt underwhelming—like random corners near York Minster or a quick pass by the Treasurer’s House. If you’re into ghost stories or enjoy a theatrical storytelling style, this might be more your thing.

For us, it didn’t hold the kids’ attention and wasn’t particularly spooky or engaging for a family audience. Perhaps this tour works better for couples or those really into ghost tales, but for families, it’s not the most entertaining option

Overall Josh gets a 5 stars, but for our family, the tour itself was passable .

The ghost tour was amazing, everyone showed up on time, Josh (tour guide) made sure everyone had arrived before we set off and made sure we were all safe. He was full of knowledge and was extremely engaging, made loads of jokes and was very witty. You will want to buy tickets in advance, it is a thing that you have to book and loads of people attend. Thank you so much, we really enjoyed the night!

I was not looking forward to the evening, and went on orders from my better half! Soooooo glad that I went along. An absolutely fantastic evening with our wonderful guide Dan. He was an incredible storyteller, and had a brilliant, booming voice. (Ideally suited for this kind of event). I would highly recommend this walk to anyone who has even the slightest interest in the York Ghosts, or history. Awesome!!!

We absolutely loved our tour on Mon 17.02.2025 - Mackenzie was incredible; such a detailed and thrilling storyteller, creating a really intimate and creepy atmosphere despite it being a fairly large group that evening. So informative, and has us thirsty for more blood-curdling tales!

Myself and my 2 boys joined the ghost walk hosted by Dan. He was extremely informative and the walk was a bit scary but lots of fun. Dan was extremely good with my boys - he had lots of questions and theories to cope with! We booked in advance and found the team to be extremely helpful and responsive. Would certainly recommend to others.

What a brilliant night, not a believer myself but what a story teller Dan is , his booming voice is amazing, had you hanging on his every word and his dramatic pauses lol.

Amazing tour. We had Josh as our tour guide and he was amazing. We got loads of history along side the ghost stories. 100% would recommend. We learnt so such about places that we had gone by during the day that it made the city feel brand new. Very informative with a great element of humour

An amazing spooky evening in York, finding out some of the gorier aspects of York's history. Our guide, Josh, was brilliant! Very knowledgeable, very entertaining, and very good at keeping our slightly disorganised private group together. Highly recommended, and the private tour was great value for money 😊
