Just got back from about a week on the water with Chris and our crew and had a fantastic time. Chris kept the course fun and engaging while going above and beyond in the theory and practice, and gave loads of great tips for sailing on my own as well. I'd definitely recommend!

Fantastic five days learning to sail (RYA Competent Crew) for me and #2 son, Tom. Our instructor/skipper, Chris, was great fun, patient, super-knowledgeable and reassuring which was appreciated by us two complete novices!

We sailed the Firth of Clyde from Largs, Ardrossan, and Inchkip, and circumnavigated Great Cumbrae and Wee Cumbrae.

The highlight was going to the aid of another vessel moored off Port Bannatyne (Bute) on our night sail, and having a pod of dolphins play around our bows for half an hour; a truly magical, once in a lifetime, moment. 🐬

Chris instructed our Day Skipper RYA course very well. He made it fun, taught us plenty of new tricks, and took us to great locations the crew wanted to go to.

Having attended a competent crew course, I found Chris's teaching to be practical, detailed, fun and involving. All us students got lots of hands on practise at all basic boat control in open water, sheltered harbour and mooring manoeuvres. The changeable Scottish weather gave us opportunities to use various sail configurations as well as motoring. Chris has experience beyond his years, so nothing was beyond is ability to teach us.
This was a fabulous experience, from the excitement of tacking to the deceptive calm of sailing downwind. Safety was always the main consideration so all the crew knew what to do and where dangers can occur. This helped us look after eachother and enjoy the experience.
Living aboard for a few days gave the group time to bond and Chris facilitated this with his distinctive charm.
I highly recommend Saltire Sailing as great value for money and competent teaching at any level of sailing. I will choose this company to teach me on my ongoing sailing progress.

Just completed a Day Skipper course with Chris Reid. It was a fantastic week of sailing and training. The course was delivered really competently, safely and in a fun and engaging way. Chris is a great tutor who is calm under pressure and is excellent at relating his knowledge to you in a very precise yet chilled way.
