Salcombe Shepherd Huts - Kingsbridge

We had a lovely few days in Salcombe. The shepherd's hut is lovely. Everything has been thought of, the huge drawers for storage meant we could unpack and get rid of our suitcases, as space is a premium. The kids LOVED the clever bunk beds. It was spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated. Super cosy with the wood burning stove. The shower facilities were the best I have seen at a campsite, so clean and hot water. The location was perfect for visiting the local area and the views from the hut were beautiful. Thank you Vicki and team.

We stay at Ilton for several weeks in the summer and again for a few days a couple of times in the year. There is nowhere I would rather be on an early summer morning than sitting with my cup of tea and seeing the view. It is a very special place

I was visiting the area for three weeks of work of which one was extra as our job ran over and found myself spending a night camping here at a family members recommended, it so happened to be the beginning of Storm Babet so decided to upgrade for the rest of the week to the Foxes Den!

The facilities are more than adequate on site (showers & toilets) clean and very modern.

I enjoyed quiet mornings and views over the Kingsbridge estuary especially.

The hut itself was well furnished and even though the weather not really that cold I sought the opportunity to use the log burner. One night I decided to fire it up so loaded her up and waited, the burner is very small and at first it didn’t seem to pump out much much heat but all of a sudden it was the middle of the night and the temperature was sweltering meaning I had to jump up and open doors and windows (I had stocked the burner well ) so don’t underestimate this small number! I imagine during the winter it would do a great job if stocked in such a way again and there are also two heaters for quickly heating the space if needed.

The toilet on the side is a nice little addition and saves pattering round to the facilities during the night which is a nice touch.

A very homely feel I just wish I was there more as spent most of my time working.

The small kitchenette had everything to prepare basic meals with gas rings and hot water was always available when needed.

I hope to return sometime for sure!

Absolutely fantastic accomodation!! I have stayed at the site previously in a caravan and love the location, the facilities and Jon and Vicky are always friendly and happy to help. The site itself is in a wonderful location and there is a really relaxed atmosphere throughout. This is the first time i have stayed in one of the shepherds huts and i will definitely be back. It has everything you need for eating, cooking etc, the bed is very comfortable and everything you need is provided. There is a large grassed area around the hut with fantastic views of the surrounding fields and the estuary.
Unlike with a tent or a van you can just rock up, leave your bags then head into the fabulous Salcombe for a pint and fish and chips. The wood burning stove would also make this a very cosy hideaway during the autumn and winter months.
In my opinion the price for what you get is an absolute bargain, particularly when you compare it to similar huts/pods on other sites. You get much more for your money and the location is pretty hard to beat. Thanks again Vicki and Jon!!👍

Well. What a wonderful place to reunite with my best buddy. The Potting Shed was an absolute delight. Beautifully decorated, cleverly designed, comfortable, warm and cozy with everything we could possibly need for our stay, even it's own loo! The shower block was immaculately clean and warm. We loved our long weekend and were quite bereft when it was over all too quickly. The surrounding area was fab. Coastal path walks, exploring little lanes, coves, chocolate box villages, shops and art galleries. Wonderful. Thankyou Vicki for a lovely stay. Idyllic location with fantastic views across the pastures to the river and beyond. So close to lovely walks by the coast and also inland. The experience of shepherds hut camping/glamping was well worth it. The hut was very warm and cosy, although the under floor heating takes some getting use to, but that could just be me!. Very well furnished with all you would need. Would highly recommend this holiday however just be aware that the WiFi was unobtainable in the hut but available on the veranda outside. Not a major issue if you have plenty of mobile data or WiFi is not important. ( Have been advised by the owner this is being addressed by an upgrade) The only other observation was that the washing/toilet block could be an issue. The block is wonderfully constructed and fitted out to very high standard, however It has only 2 showers, 2 x wc 2 urinal, 2 basins. ( male side) which I can see a bit of a queue when the site fills up. I understand that "planning" restrictions prevent a larger block. The push button on the showers requires a refresh push every 5 seconds. The observations did not detract from a very relaxing break and were not a deal breaker/issue that we felt we needed them to be addressed for our personal time whilst there. Enjoyed to a point considering returning later in the year.

After our holiday was cancelled by the board of directors at Thomas Cook we jumped in the car and popped down to Devon. We had an absolutely amazing time at the Shepherds huts! Really quiet, left to kick back and relax. Weather wasn't perfect but as long as you're not far from the wood burning stove it doesn't matter. Everything was very clean and tidy with everything you could possibly need. Shower/toilet block was very clean and tidy too. Thank you for a wonderful holiday at a pretty stressful time!

This lovely little hut is beautifully decorated, comfortable and extremely cosy on a blustery January Evening. A comfortable bed with quality linen and an overall blissfully relaxing 4 nights away. 😊
