Excellent place for a stroll in a wheelchair mostly compacted earth, so suitable for all terrain wheelchair or scooters. Free Parking. Car park further in is not suitable for low ground clearance vehicles as you might get grounded as the road is deeply rutted. Excellent views and great abundance of nature to see. The route is circular around 3 miles in a wheelchair. There are no signs when you reach the caravan park just follow the road around, and you should reach where you started from.

Not too bad of a walk. Plenty of parking on the road leading into the sanctuary. Very small car park inside with no facilities. Lots of potholes all the way round,so not really wheelchair friendly.Walked through the caravan park back to car.

Free RSPB site. Very limited parking spaces, about 10, on rough ground at side of access road. No facilities such as toilets. Birdwatching hide a long walk from car parking area. The birdwatching is very good, lots of scrub for small birds and a lagoon with islands that are used by terns and others for nesting. Mostly of interest to birders.

Large open scrubland managed by RSPB, previously part of the ironworks. Free, limited parking, bird hide, range of birds found at coastal, wetland & scrub location. Ideal for dog-walkers & bird watchers

Peaceful Nature Reserve set in former iron works. Difficult to imagine it's busy industrial past when it's so tranquil now! Sad to see litter strewn throughout the reserve including dog poo bags. There is a lack of bins available to put rubbish in which night help but, of course, they will need to be emptied regularly and probably not the resources available to do that. Some incredible views out towards Black Coombe, White Coombe, Scarfell Pike and the Old Man of Coniston and there is the quiet peaceful White Rock Beach on the Dutton Estuary and the sea wall itself to walk protecting the fresh water lagoon. Spring delivers lots of yellow gorse and wonderful to see trees in bud.Every where the song of birds can be heard.
