An excellent day trip can be had on the round robin tour. I started off in Paignton on a steam train to the ferry at Dartmouth, caught the ferry over to Dartmouth and then after a brief stay there got on a boat to travel up the river Dart to Totnes. Another brief tour round this place then an open topped bus ride back to Paignton.
The views are spectacular and the commentary on the boat is helpful and informative.
If you get bored of the beautiful scenery you can drown yourself in the bar (cash only) or spend time watching toddlers block up the stairways and crawl perilously close to bits of the boat you really wouldn’t want them to go to. You can also play spot the parents of these children (harder than you think)

Brilliant day well organised steam train to Dartmouth 2 hours there then on a 1 hour 15 minute boat trip to totnes spend a bit of time there before a private bus back to Paignton fantastic

Bought a family ticket, steam train was full of old people😡 when we got to Kingswear, we got confused as the boat we thought was the river cruise was actually the ferry and we missed it so had to wait another 10 mins. Boat was nice up to Totnes, got the bus back.

Excellent day . It's a bit confusing when you first go on the website, but stock with it, it is well worth the trouble sorting out where you wish to start. Take a coat if it is chilly the boat trip is a bit exposed if you want a really good view from an outside seat.

Our family of five (2 adults, 2 children and Granny) did the Round Robin Tour: Bus from Paignton, Boat Cruise and Steam Train. I would like to thank Sarah at the ticket office for her excellent customer service and for saving the day after I had made an error with my tickets. Sarah, you were so friendly and helpful- I wish you the best in your life.
The tour was a wonderful way to see and learn about the area. The Boat cruise was amazing- the ship captains gave informative and witty commentary and made the trip really enjoyable. We had some time to explore Dartmouth and had a traditional Cornish pasty, explored the church and harbour region and sampled some of the delicious fudge in the town. The steam train was a real highlight- the girls felt as if they were in the Howarts express and I couldn't help but think of Poirot and Hastings on a quest!
The trip is well worth the ticket price

One of the things we do every year!
Due to the tide we always done it bus first (starting in Paignton) in the last few years - I'd like to do it the other way round again sometimes, but the times need to change for that...
Fortunately we took the 10am bus for the 11.45am boat cruise, as this was fully booked and a queue started to build before the 11am bus arrived. As we were towards the front of that queue we were able to choose where to sit.
I always love the comments on wildlife as well as other interesting points we cross while cruising on the river Dart. Some of the jokes need to be replaced though, I've heard themlike 10times by now...
The staff on the boat is always very friendly and there is a good variety of drinks and snacks avaiable.
It's worth to stay in Dartmouth for a little stroll, as it's a beautiful place.
The ferry is very easy to catch and the steam train makes a good end of the tour, going along the coast. If you get the right moment, you can take beautiful pictures of the train and Goodrington beach.
I'm already looking forward to visiting you again next summer!

Wonderful trip using a bus, ferry and a steam train! Great day out for the family with plenty of flexibility to enjoy time in each place. The bus driver was wonderful and very apologetic about arriving a few minutes late due to traffic. The ferry captain was a laugh and provided hilarious but still educational commentary on the river. The steam train, while a short journey, had wonderful views and was a great end to the day. Highly recommend to all
