Our daughter was part of a school trip to Ridgway and she had such an exceptional and most brilliant trip! We spent a wonderful Autumn break at Ridgway Adventure and found the combination of the beautiful remote setting, the warm hospitality and the adventure activities perfect for our family of 4.

We stayed in the very comfortable and cosy Wooden House which has amazing panoramic views over the loch and to the hills behind. Delicious home cooking was provided by Rebecca - such a treat not to have to cook!

Sea kayaking with Mark was a truly magical experience with seals swimming next to the kayaks and the November sun setting behind us. We also had a fantastic afternoon body boarding on a nearby beach and found some great local walks.

We can't wait to go back and explore more and can't recommend Ridgway Adventure highly enough as a great family holiday in the most stunning location in NW Scotland.

Our family spent a lovely few days in the Wooden House at Ardmore. Such a beautiful place and we were so well looked after by Rebecca and Mark. Wonderful home cooked food to return to each evening after spending the days sea kayaking with Mark. We can't wait to come back.

A superbly led and hosted day of amazing sea kayaking on Loch Laxford for our family of 4. Extremely professional and safe. Mark our guide encouraged and gently developed two young teenage paddlers. In their words “we really enjoyed the waves and exploring through the rocks”. The day finished off with a jump into the sea, a peak at John Ridgeway’s Atlantic rowing boat from 1966 and Rebecca’s Cape Horn sea kayak from 1992 plus scones, cake and tea in the sunshine. Having been bringing groups of Year 6 children from my school to Ridgway Adventure for 17 years I cannot recommend Ridgway Adventure highly enough. Rebecca and Mark run the most amazing adventure school which is so much more than just a traditional outdoor adventure school. Their philosophy, taken from John Ridgway’s three principles, of self reliance, positive thinking and leaving people and places better than you find them underpin all they do. This really is a unique adventure school which embeds learning into the whole experience. Their care and attention to detail is unsurpassed. if you are lucky enough to spend some time here you will fully understand what a wonderful adventure school they have created.

We have just come back from an amazing 6 night trip (July 2021) and my children (8 and 11) are still buzzing! This year -as a Covid response and the continuing disruption to normal life - Ridgway Adventure had laid on special courses for small family groups.
We were very lucky to be on one! Between Rebecca, Mark and our excellent (and extremely calm) instructor Lewis, we managed all the activities -sea kayaking, fishing and catching crabs and raft building, and even the more physically challenging ones - a hiking up a mountain, rock-climbing and a night on survival island.
Highlights were being followed around the bay by an inquisitive family of seals whilst kayaking; seeing both children climb 60 foot rock faces, and abseil down; a day off at the nearby beach (hands down the most beautiful beach I’ve seen in the UK); and the cooking of Andrew the chef. A winning combination of being challenged in an inspiring setting and really taken care of. No wonder my eight-year-old daughter told me at the end it had been one of the best weeks of her life!

A wonderful Sutherland day in late September courtesy of Rebecca and Mark. We kayaked in the loch, enjoyed a picnic while watching the seals play and finished the day with tea and delicious cakes. Mark was a fantastic guide and we were made to feel incredibly welcome as we learnt a little about the wildlife and living in a remote croft in this wild and beautiful place. Don’t miss this very special experience!
