An amazing place! Driven passed for years without realising what a gem this castle is. What remains are the stone ruins of the keep built in the late 1200s. The castle was owned by Edward The Black Prince, who was one of those princes who was next in line to be King but died before their father did. The circular shape for the whole keep is impressive, rather than usual square shape and there are enough ruins to see the different rooms. There are information panels dotted around too. Very much worth visiting and great for children. There is a free car park, small shop (selling refreshments) & toilets. There is an entry fee but free for English Heritage members.

very friendly and kind staff. some amazing old trees in the grounds. in early spring all the flowers were out which was lovely. i was able to taste some black cherry mead in the shop - delicious.

I cycled from roche to here. Here you need tickets as these ruins are preserved by English heritage. Originally built as a Norman motte-and-bailey castle, it later became a luxurious residence for the Earls of Cornwall. The well-preserved walls and unique design offer insights into medieval life and architecture. Perched on a hilltop, the castle provides stunning views of the River Fowey and the surrounding countryside. Its history also includes a role in the English Civil War, making it a site rich in heritage and stories.

We really enjoyed our visit to Restormel Castle today. As we entered the Castle we encountered Clive a volunteer guide. He came to chat to us initially and then let us walk around. When we had some questions we found that Clive was very knowledgeable and was easy to talk to and he clearly knew his subject. Clive actually brought the castle to life and really made our visit. There are toilets on site and in the ticket office/shop there was quite a selection of gifts available and also a hot drinks machine. All in all this is a very good morning out. You can if you want to walk along a trail to the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery which is about 45 minutes away.

A little hidden gem. English Heritage, with little shop/reception, and toilets. Camper friendly, no height barrier , plenty of parking spaces. It's grass walking, so when wet, quite slippery, but we'll worth visiting in any weather. Amazing feeling to this castle, of times gone by, 13th century built, with a moat, and walkway right around the top. Picnic benches and a lovely walk around the outside of the castle. £9 if not EH member. Additionally such a friendly manager at reception, she's informative, helpful and couldn't make your visit any better - brilliant. It's a bit of a windy drive, along quite a narrow road, just need to take it steady. Enjoy, we did !
