An absolute must!
Richard is an extremely knowledgeable, kind and all round lovely person.
We had the pleasure of being taken around Loch Lochy from Fort William and wild camping along the way, all guided by Richard and his vast knowledge of the area.
Red River Guiding provided all essential equipment and food. The food was prepared and cooked each day/night by Richard mainly on an open fire (due to being extremely lucky with the Scottish weather!!) which really added to the experience. I have dietary requirements and this was accommodated for.
Richard is very accommodating and makes sure that the trip is one that’s very much accustomed to our needs and wants.

I wouldn’t think twice about going back to Red River Guiding. Already thinking about the next potential trip. Richard is the ‘go to man’ and I would recommend his company to anyone.

Had an amazing guided trip of the great Glen canoe trail with Richard over 4 days.

The knowledge and information provided were excellent and I felt very comfortable and safe for the duration of our expedition.

We camped along the trail and Richard helped with any camp niggles and got us a great fire going to chat around and keep the midges off on an evening.

Any concerns were quickly addressed and Richard offered us options to choose from when the weather meant our plans had to change to let everyone have an input in the plan going forward.

Would 100% go with Richard again and already thinking about my next canoe adventure.

We took on The Great Glen Trail as part of a charity fundraiser for Blackdog Outdoors.

If there were anything higher than 5*, it would be given. Richards professionalism, knowledge, experience, and service is absolutely unrivalled.

Along with Joy and Dan, our support instructors, Richard managed to manoeuvre 8 relative strangers with a collective experience ranging from “I think I own a tent” to “what’s a canoe?” across the width of Scotland, which is no easy task even with more experienced canoe-goers.

Unfortunately, the weather was against us and Loch Ness was impassable. However, everything was explained clearly so we understood why this was, and various alternative options were provided. We chose a new route as a group and covered the equivalent distance over a different stretch of The Trail. Without Richards geographical knowledge concerning both the weather and the local area, along with his experience and quick adaptability, this would not have been possible and I believe the expedition would have simply ended early.

If you’re considering an adventure but still feel nervous, take my word that the nerves will be settled with Red River Guiding at your side. In all honesty, I would be reluctant to take on such a mammoth task with anyone other than Richard and Red River Guiding.

Keep doing what you’re doing, Rich.

Incredible adventure completing The Great Glen Way Canoe Trail.
This was a trip I had wanted to do for many years and to finally do it has been really special.
Richard is the perfect leader - calm, organised, sensible and approachable.
Everything was carefully thought out and considered for all the varying abilities that were on the trip.
No one felt overwhelmed or left out.
I highly recommend him and can assure you that you wouldn’t regret it.

What a tremendous experience, from initial contact, to waving us off at the end of the 3 days Richard and the team at Red River were exemplary. Myself (some paddle experience) and my sister (no paddle experience in the last 35 years) booked a 3 day canoe and camp expedition on Loch Awe with Richard and it was so well organised and equipped, we wanted for nothing.
At every stage, we felt that Richard was an expert in his field and over the 3 days, we could certainly tell that his is also a coach with lots of experience, as our confidence and ability grew. For us, the camping element was a huge part of the trip, and he gave us some great tips to get the best out of our gear. As for Loch Awe, what a stunning setting, with four seasons in the space of an hour, I would advise waterproofs (It was October!) We left on the last day, thinking of what we could do next with Red River, but also myself, with a confidence to tackle something similar myself (on a smaller scale.) I would heartily recommend any of Richards trips, and will likely book again!

Red River Guiding comes with my highest recommendation and without fault.

Rich has a wealth if skills and experience which he happily shared with our group of veretans, his calm demeanor and knowledge helped instil confidence in each of us novice paddlers.

We very quickly became comfortable on the water and successfully navigated a challenging crossing across Scotland.

In my opinion, none of the other guided groups we met along the way displayed anywhere near the same level of professionalism as rich and we seen some really risky decisions made by them.

If you want an adventure, and want to get home safe, red river guiding is the 1st and only choice.

See you again soon team red river, thank you for a simply stunning adventure.
