Had the best 4 days staying in the old luggage van, my son watched and photographed trains constantly while I relaxed in the beautiful carrage , warm and snug with the log burner roaring !!!!!! Had everything we needed plus a really comfy settee and bed . Trains stop at 11 ish and don't start until 6ish except for a couple of night trains so don't disturbe your sleep at all , mind you considering your litterally on the platform they weren't loud at all which was surprising. Days out are easy from this base as such regular trains into Devon and further in cornwall, wish we had stayed longer as would have loved to gone on more daytrips , so def booking for longer next time !!!!!!!!!! Lovely friendly hosts on arrival who left fresh flowers , home made apple juice and a goodies bag for our arrival also plenty of logs and kindling for the log burner ( lovely but not a necessity as radiators kept the carrage warm and snug anyway ) lovely village pub and a community shop for essentials. Perfect holiday Thank-you x

We had 4 nights in the Old Luggage Van and we had a wonderful time. It was warm and very comfortable in its own pretty garden. it is very close to the tracks making it ideal for railway enthusiasts. The station has a frequent train service with Plymouth being only about 15 minutes away. Lizzy and Dave are very helpful and welcoming and we look forward to visiting again.

We've just returned from a weeks holiday in the Old Luggage Van. Ideally situated alongside the Plymouth bound platform, it was a dream come true. As a rail photographer, I obtained a superb collection of GWR shots, including the Riviera Night Sleeper at 0600 in the morning, and the regular china clay freight train to Fowey. The OLV is so handy for rail trips to Plymouth, Penzance and Truro. The OLV stands within a beautiful and well kept garden, including an apple tree laden with apples.|The accommodation is superb with an extremely comfortable bed one end of the carriage and a delightful sitting area the other end. Hot water and heating throughout, with plenty of railway reading material and a GWR model loco with wagons displayed on the shelf.|Most evenings were spent in splendid local pubs, all serving food.|We travelled by car from Colchester, but next time we will use the train. |Thankyou for a memorable stay.

A delightful experience. We had a very good break in Mevy. A lot of time and care has been spent to make the carriage a most comfortable holiday home. The owners are close by and very helpful with ideas and help to enjoy the locality. We thoroughly recommend it.

We loved the luxurious first class double bedroom with very comfortable mattress, well equipped kitchen and bath in Mevy carriage at St Germans. We had stayed there three years ago, as well as in The Travelling Post Office and in Harvey at Hayle.||There is plenty to do in St Germans - we used the friendly community shop and welcoming pub 'The Eliot Arms' several times in the week. Also attended a concert in the Priory Church, had tea & cakes in The Stables Cafe in the Port Eliot Estate and walked to the quayside with the impressive viaduct. We enjoyed a walk around the private woodland - lots of good quality information boards on the route this time. Quite muddy in October, so wear suitable footwear.||My family live nearby and they took us to The Canteen at Maker with impressive views of the sea and the newly opened 'The Story of Emily' at St. Ive that had an amazing immersive insight into the Boer War and also a restaurant with tasty South African food.||I am always impressed with the commitment to an environmentally friendly way of life of owners of Rail Holiday Lizzy and Dave Stroud.

A very enjoyable experience. Accommodation is unusual but extremely well presented. Owners only too happy to share their enthusiasm for the project. St Germans is a very pleasant village, somewhat off the beaten track, but very convenient for the train!

We had a lovely week in Mevy. We stayed a few years ago & were pleased to return to the same great service & standard of hospitality. Liz & Dave clearly put a lot of effort & heart into maintaining these exquisite carriages & providing a comfortable stay for their guests; I don’t think there’s anything they’ve not thought of! We loved watching the trains come & go & also the swingball kept the kids entertained on many occasions. Lovely quiet location within easy reach of many great places to visit. Our children absolutely loved it & didn’t want to leave. We look forward to returning next year. Thank you again for a wonderful & comfortable stay.

Perfectly located for access by train, the Railholiday Ltd carriages are remarkable. We stayed in 'Mevy' which, despite being less than 40ft long, includes a beautifully fitted double bedroom, a sitting area that retains many of the original features, a small kitchen, bathroom and bunk room. The equipment was not extensive but well selected. The carriage was clean and quiet, the perfect retreat for a retired couple like ourselves but with all sorts to interest young families, railway enthusiasts - and environmentalists, too, with considerable thought having gone into everything from the landscaping of the site to the choice of (environmentally friendly) washing-up liquid!|The first thing to note is that the joining information we were sent prior to our stay was the most comprehensive and helpful we'd received in 40 years of holidaying in the UK. On one of the days of our stay there was a train strike (and there are virtually no buses serving St Germans!) but, prompted by this information, we found the village itself well worth exploring, especially the Priory and the walk down to the Quay, which must be among the most scenic in Britain. On that day, we particularly valued the local community shop - a tiny retail outlet selling a range of goods not far short of the average supermarket, and run entirely by local volunteers.|The other thing worth mentioning is the owners. Considerate, kind and responsive, Lizzy and Dave Stroud proved the perfect hosts. They were not in any way intrusive but, when we did hit a snag, their reaction was immediate, innovative and generous. |We'd thoroughly recommend Railholiday Ltd carriages. In fact, despite the 9-hour journey to get there, we're already thinking of going back...
