I was 2 year old when me and my family were living near the base named RAF Alconbury because my dad was in a military. We didn't live in the base because they didn't have enough house for us. I was 3 year old when we moved back to California.

I have such great memories of my 3 weeks temporary duty at Alconbury RAF forty+ years ago, and my sightseeing in my spare time around Godmanchester, St. Ives, the Stukelys, Huntingdon and nearby Cambridge. Dart boards and Ploughman Lunches, Draft Beer and all those wonderful villagers. I will always treasure what one shopkeeper said to me. How grateful England was when the United States showed up in WW2. She said, you Americans changed the course of the war. Don't worry about what the youngsters (those under 50 presumably) say, they're just mad their taxes are so high, and their wages are so low, and the Royals, as much as we love them, get so much of our hard earned pounds. Or something like that. Was a wonderful 3 weeks. I would like to go back in time and thank all of the people who were so nice to me for their hospitality and generous spirit.

Stationed at RAF Alconbury 1976 to 1978 as a base firefighter, actual name is Bob Harvey, amazing how Google can mess that up! A great assignment after coming from Ent AFB in CO actually Peterson Field. I was there during the reign of the RF4C of the 10th TRW and delivery of the F5E aircraft for the 527th and saw the delivering C5A landing gear punch through the WW II runway. I enjoyed the small villages and the people I met and tried hard not to be the tourist American.

Long live RAF Alconbury and her very special history and long live the real planes of the USAF, the F4 Phantom II.

RAF Alconbury needs a lot of work. It could be such an awesome place to live and work is FSS could just find a way to communicate properly with their employees and others. I put in a very kind ICE complaint after an event that led me to scrapping my vehicle and instead of a response I was ignored and then gaslighted by someone at FSS. I didn't even ask for financial compensation which is good because I certainly wouldn't have received any.

Alconbury was my only assignment after Tech school. 1969 thru 1972. Best 3 1/2 years of my life. I have returned at least 8 times over the years. Many great friends in nearby Oundle and Kettering. Hope to make 1 more trip.
