I had a wonderful morning with Rich along the Devils Dyke walk. He was an outstanding guide and shared lots about the area, nature around us and insights about walking. The group were brilliant and we made connections with each other whilst walking the route. It’s certainly something I’d like to do again and the whole process from booking to finishing was wonderful. If you’re thinking of doing your NNAS Awards then you won’t find a better teacher than Richard. He ran a ‘Straight to silver’ course for my group Adventuress Hikers, and had to take on 8 of us who had never previously used map and compass. He did an exceptional job, teaching us step by step and constantly going over the information to make sure we understood. Every member of my group felt that Richards teaching technique was perfect, and we all had such an incredible time.

His teaching style is friendly and fun, and we got 1-on-1 sessions at the end of each day to make sure we were all understanding everything.
He also recommended a campsite and went above and beyond with giving lots of advice for ML training. His enthusiasm for the outdoors is palpable.

We all can’t wait to take on another course with Richard and will be booking again in the future!

I recently completed the 'Straight to Silver' NNAS award with PAT Adventures and can highly recommend them as course providers. The course itself was really well run in terms of: pre-course communications, group number (4 students), and most especially the knowledge and expertise of the instructors. Richard, and his glamorous assistant Harvey, are patient and able teachers who make the course fun and enjoyable even as it is packed full of information and skill development. I would definitely come back to do more courses with PAT Adventures.

Top tip: if you are a total novice to navigation like me, but decide to do the Straight to Silver course, then give yourself a month or so between the first part of the course and the Silver weekend. That way you have plenty of time to consolidate your learnings.

One day map reading course. Booking was quick and easy and info sent before hand very clear. Rich was a great instructor and took time to make sure everyone understood even in a group of differing abilities. Rich was very organised and very knowledgeable. We covered a lot of skills in 7 hours but it was a really enjoyable day and I am much more confident in my map reading skills now. And a lovely walk too!

Richard is a fab instructor. On the straight to silver course we had opportunities to work together and individually to put our learning into practice and it was a relaxed approach putting everyone at ease. I would really recommend the course!
