DO NOT RENT THIS PROPERTY TO YOU HAVE READ THIS !!!!!
We arrived at Perryman’s Cottage paying in full a month before, the pictures look fabulous and we could not believe our luck.
We have travelled 230 miles with 5 adults & 2 young children, arriving at 6.50pm, having been told under no circumstances to arrive any sooner.
Given that we are in the middle of a global pandemic & such a long time was required for cleaning, it meant the property was being deep cleaned! To arrive after such a long journey & find that not only had a deep clean not taken place, apparently very little cleaning had taken place at all!! We can only assume that the absolute filth is a build up over months rather than just days!
On arrival on to the Property the grounds appeared shabby & unkempt, a total contradiction to the pictures advertised! On entering the building, the smell of damp & general uncleanliness was overwhelming! very few of the rooms were as pictured on your advertisement! All bed linen was worn, and old, downstairs sofa must have been 20yrs. This house has been completely & utterly mis-sold!
There are dirty stains over many of the walls throughout, particularly kitchen walls & doors. Insides of kitchen cupboards are dirty & sticky & door handles are sticky to the touch with grime! On being wiped, these were brown!! The kitchen had obviously not been cleaned - the bread bin & knife rack were full of crumbs & the microwave covered in food stains, bathroom cabinet downstairs was covered in what was presumably toiletries from previous residents & the upstairs shower had various hairs inside & the grout was dirty
All floors & skirting boards throughout are thick with dirt
On entered the cottage there were flies everywhere, both dead & alive!! We can accept the odd fly may have been left inside but not the amount we found
We opened the windows to try & let in some fresh air & what was found was not at all pleasant, these frames have clearly not been washed for years, never mind months! Windows were also stained!
Perhaps the most disturbing find of all was the filth on the dining table from which we’re supposed to eat - this is repulsive!!
I telephoned the cleaning manager, She stated that she had been in the property with the ‘team’ that day & it had been left ‘spotless.’ The meaning of this word is obviously subject to an incredible amount of poetic licence!
I was cleaning until midnight on the arrival night & the property is still not even near to acceptable! I decided late in the evening to lift the rug rather than hoovering, so as not to disturb anybody & the muck that came off it was unspeakable! This was promptly folded & placed in the ‘cleaning’ cupboard!
As if these findings were not bad enough, hoping for a good night’s sleep after an exhausting day, we discovered that the mattresses in both the downstairs & king-size bedrooms were fusty, smelly & damp, as are the sofas!!
The cleanliness is obviously entirely unacceptable, but as mentioned earlier, this accommodation has been mis-sold & the photographs advertised are a complete mis-representation of the reality & were obviously taken some time ago!!!!!!
We contacted Rachel at Croyde holidays in Ilfracombe, she emailed us straight back, to their credit they offered us a partial refund within 1 hour of our email, we refused this and got a full one.
We vacated the property, throwing out over a £100 of food that we could not travel home with, and spending over £250 in petrol for two cars to make a round trip to a dilapidated, tired, un-cared for holiday home
Both the owner and the letting firm should be ashamed of the miss selling and the profiteering of this property.
