A great old oak tree despite what looks like a trunk fire and disease has life in its new limbs. There's a handy bench in a sun trap in Furze Hill.

Lovely afternoon spent with the kids, some amazing trees to climb so the kids were in their element! There's something really magical as well being in the presence of such a majestic tree, got the kids really using their imaginations on who in the past may have sat there before us! Some rather tall stories were being told I must say 😄 definitely worth a visit if you've tree climbing, story telling urchins like mine!

Magical place to visit with many glorious old oak trees..... cycle from Dedham, too, Mistley, as from Lawford, is a straight road going through an old rural walkway, or if not, get the train too, Manningtree.

Old Knobbley is a remarkable sight; just when you think that you've seen an old tree, then think again. The age of this venerable mature Oak is so outstandingly obvious, it's enough to make you stop & just be amazed. It's awe inspiring to visit this tranquil spot & consider all what this tree has been through. Over the centuries it's known that Old Knobbley has received a direct lightning strike amongst everything else from the fickle British weather. Nowadays this silent giant nestles in timeless forest shade.

This venerable tree has been a popular destination for children, who enjoy climbing its branches. Regrettably, it has also been the target of an arson attempt. Given the relatively small size of the surrounding woods, it is not a lengthy walk to explore the area.

Great afternoon out for parents and children. Mistley woods is accessible via the Village Hall, which offers free parking. The woods are hilly, the paths are all bare ground, many covered in leavers and dead wood. This brings a real earthy odour and closeness to nature in the environment. The trees are simply magnificent, including the spectacular Old Knobbley itself. Not many places to sit, nor own arises in the wood itself, so not ideal for stopping to eat. There are no let bins - the environment is natural except several wooden structures for children to play on. A fab experience.

Old knobbly is an 800 year old oak tree, it's presented in beautiful ancient woodland and is a mecca for local dog walkers. There are no signs to display it but none are needed, it is pretty easy to find and parking at the village hall is free.
