I write this while sitting at Filey Station for 12 minutes. Why? Because they've built it into the timetable to cut down their 'late arrival' statistics. It happens all over the rail industry, not just Northern. Apart from the fact their cycle facilities are woefully inadequate and broken, all their trains have been clean and ran on time.

A rather ok train operator. When going on the train I normally get on one of these as they are my local operator. The fleet size is ok but a lot of trains can get crowded. It is ridiculous! I once got on a journey from Sheffield to Adwick (I got of at Doncaster) and it was crowded to the top! I got on first luckily so I got a seat. This journey was a 2 car Class 150. I think at rush hour it should be extended to a double train. Of course I don’t blame the 150 as it is a great train overall. On the other hand, The 170 I got on from Doncaster to Sheffield was practically empty! Though I did love the Ride on the Class 158 to Donnie.

Another delayed train!! Got on a Stockton station, dying to use the toilet. The cleaner was inside both toilet booths on the train. This is very frustrating, when I couldn't go at Stockton! She even sent me down to the wrong hatch where the driver is located. It just gets worse, and worse!

If I could leave zero stars I would. It has just taken me FIVE hours to get from Manchester airport to Preston! All services to Blackpool North were cancelled so I had to wait for the Barrow service which was delayed. Of course this service was used by everyone else trying to get closer to home so it was packed. Real problems arose at Piccadilly were many hundreds of people were literally fighting to get on creating a really unsafe and dangerous environment. The train after twenty five minutes set off for three minutes to Oxford road, again more carnage when the train stopped. This is where things really deteriorated with a delay of an an hour and half for a replacement driver to turn up. The entire management at NR should be fired and the Unions & Labour Government held accountable for this complete breakdown in public transport were people are severely disrupted during busy Christmas periods and put in danger due to overcrowded stations and trains because of lack of service. The UK is absolutely falling to bits and people are being taken for fools with outrageous costs and zero services when companies like this with already overpaid staff receive more with no performance measures attached. Absolute disgrace!

Professionally managed company. Delays frequent, but often due to infra reasons, not Northern themselves. They urgently need modern rolling stock.

Got to be the worst train company in the world, on a train back from Blackpool to York only got back to Blackburn and thrown off staff very unhelpful and incompetent had to find our own way back to York, pathetic.

Our train was cancelled the morning of our departure. The bus replacement was then late, and took hours longer than our train was supposed to. We were given no other option but to catch it! Follow up trains subsequently left with no notification to those of us on the bus.

On the journey both to and from Sheffield, the train was over crowded by time it left the second station.
The conductors sounded fed up, I'm sure they're right in the firing line for complaints. Northern know how busy the routes are but apparently insist on just using three carriages.
We were encouraged by one conductor to contact Northern to complain.
A screen on the return leg displayed a message compensation may be available if the train arrived 15 minutes late.....then came the message we were only 14 minutes late.
