Emily is fantastic! I would recommend to anyone that fancies having a wonderful unique outdoor adventure or trying a new skill. It was our first time kayaking but we felt safe throughout thanks to Emily’s expertise and guidance. She is incredibly knowledgable, friendly and very responsive to any questions or queries. It was a lovely day trying out new activities and we thoroughly enjoyed hearing all of Emily’s North Devon stories as we kayaked across the coastline. It was a surreal experience seeing the seals out in the wild and one we will never forget all thanks to Emily. We will definitely be booking another trip soon!

I found Emily by doing a Google search for kayaking/canoeing in North Devon. I'm an older lady and I have a particular challenge I want to do in two years time which requires me to canoe 75 miles. I've never been kayaking and I do not like water! My grown up kids fully support my madness and got a kayaking experience for us all with Emily for my birthday. Emily was incredible! She completely understood what I want to do and how scary it is for me. I was in a double with Emily for the outbound trip and we felt like we were proper explorers. Yes, I did capsize and panic but Emily's straightforward clear instructions soon got me sorted out and back on. She was right...'if you lean over, you'll tip over'. I demonstrated this for my kids.
I was confident enough to do the return trip in a single but I really appreciated that Emily was never far away from me.
I absolutely loved the whole trip, ( not just the cream tea) Best Saturday morning ever!! I'm hooked!
I honestly cannot recommend Emily at North Devon Explorers highly enough. She's an amazing woman.
I can't wait to get started on the beginners kayaking course with her.

Absolutely no hesitation here about giving 5 stars for Emily and the fantastic time she organised for us. We had a great little paddle on the sea to explore a sea cave and saw a waterfall, we had a lovely cream tea on the beach and built a fire and toasted marshmallows, then had a look around the rockpools for sea critters. Our rather sendentary kids were given some much needed adventure but not pressured to do anything they weren't happy with. Despite the challenges of the unpredictable weather, Emily was determined to cover all the bases and make sure we had a fun time, and tailored the session to our individual needs. Highly recommended!

We had a great half day kayaking with Emily during our stay in North Devon in June. The weather was perfect and we were able to go on the day we originally planned to see the seals. The whole experience from deciding on which trip to do, and booking with Emily was very easy. Thank you Emily for a fun day, and the lovely pics you took for us.

We had a fun family canoe/kayak from Barnstaple up the river. Emily was brilliant and gave us lots of confidence. She communicated well about weather and ensured we went on a day which was perfect. We will definitely do another trip in the future.

Emily took myself and two friends out for a three hour kayaking experience. We started on Croyde beach, and she taught us how to use the kayaks safely and then guided us around the channels along to the end of Baggy point. We then stopped along the way back to have hot chocolates and brioche before returning to the beach, where she gave us an hour long lesson on surfing the kayaks onto the beach. There was a range of kayaking experience between the three of us and we all said that we learnt something and came out of the session much improved! Emily was a friendly and helpful teacher and guide, with lovely knowledge on the local area. Just a gorgeous way to spend a Saturday morning in the sunshine. Highly recommend to both locals and visitors to North Devon. Thank you Emily!

Brilliant, brilliant Beginners Kayaking Course yesterday.
We were given a comprehensive talk about how to recognise weather and tidal conditions, how to read OS maps and plan your trips accordingly with weather/tide info. We were shown all the kit and received good explanations of what everything was and why you need it. We were given all the equipment we needed, taken on the water and shown all the relevant skills needed for the beginners level. Then we had a good practical session of lifesaving for self and peers.
A thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding course, also very eye-opening on the knowledge needed to safely use a kayake in tidal waters. If I ever see anyone buying an inflatable kayak from Aldi, I'd want to give them Emily's details and demand they take a course with her immediately!
