Had a great time, as always at Lyme Park with our daughter & grandchildren. (5&3) We love the gardens & all the Summer activities for the children are fantastic, along with the adventure playground which our girls loved! We enjoyed the refreshments in the cafes. It’s really great place to visit with so much history to explore in & around the house. We’ve only really just scratched the surface & we want to do more of the walks all around the estate in the future.

Absolutely outstanding. Right from the mile and a half drive up to the house, walk through the beautiful vast grounds and a tour around the incredible house everything is outstanding. Visit this incredible place and I guarantee you will not be disappointed. You can even dress in period costumes, they provide free of charge, and wear them throughout your visit.

Vast grounds, interesting house and knowledgeable volunteer room guides. The main lake near the house was part drained, so otherwise five stars. Gardens are worth a look, but the "cage" whilst open on the ground floor is quite a walk for not very much until it's refurbished and fully open again.

Until the end of August 2025, if you visit the park by public transport, you can enter Lyme Park for free. See the website for more information. It’s best to arrive earlier if possible, as the house and garden close around 4 p.m.

There is a shuttle bus stop near the admission hut. Simply present your train or bus ticket at the hut and request a shuttle to the main house. If you prefer a leisurely walk, it takes about 20 minutes to reach the house and garden.

On your way back, ask the volunteers about the alternative path back to the park entrance that offers a much better view. Many thanks to the volunteer who told us about it, the view was truly stunning.

1400 acres park managed by National Trust. Very well managed. Free shuttle service run by National Trust from main gate to the house for those coming by public transport. They do get 10% discount too by showing the ticket (or bike helmet in case you cycles to the place).
They provide old time dresses that you can wear in the campus and get clicked, that is a fun activity free of cost. Lake behind the house has reduced to less than half it's size. There's plenty of car parking available near the park. House is very well maintained and plenty of available staff gives away some interesting bits about the history. If you're lucky, you might see a herd of deers near the cage or deer sanctuary. Worth visiting on a sunny day.

The wide and beautiful garden was turned into a play area for the children’s summer event.
My kids had so much fun!
The house inside was also very large and interesting.
There were children’s toys inside the house, and my kids had the special experience of playing freely in a historic building!

Visited August bank holiday Monday, was very busy so we were in the overflow's overflow car park.

This NT site is the most relaxed I have ever visited, where (within reason) you can interact with the stuff in the house and kids don't feel excluded. For example, you could have a go on the billiard table, the upstairs gallery had tents for kids to go in, and there was a room dedicated to getting dressed up.

This day out gives good value for money as we spent 4 hours looking at the house, garden, Cage (this was open but we couldn't go beyond the 1st floor, which was a shame), and the Lantern, but will need to do another visit to see the other stuff I missed! We even saw a duet of stags at the end.

Accessing via the main entrance in Disley can be a major pain if timed wrongly (queues easily form in the slow moving Disley), but once in you follow the road to the ticket booth. For members it's free but everyone else it's £8.00 per person. After entry past the ticket booth, you drive towards the main house (which I have never been in!) which is approx a mile before dropping down into the main car park area. The house has formal gardens too that you can walk around. However, I find the wider grounds / area easily enough to explore. There are many circular routes you can take to crisscross the 1,400 acre landscape and depending on how fit you are or time you have. The red deer tend to be at the further reaches. The are also old lodges, such as 'The Cage' & 'The Lantern', Paddock Cottage dotted within the landscape to visit. The landscape has open raised areas and woodlands to treed valleys plus large water bodies and small streams. Hence, you can see a range of wildlife depending on time of year. There are also plenty of cafes towards the main car park, with seating plus there are indoor seating and toilets available, such as at the Timber Yard. Food and drinks are standard choices, but it's not cheap.
