Our Backroads group just completed a hike of the Ring of Gullion which is an area of outstanding natural beauty in Newry. The trek was led by Brian H. who was a wonderful storyteller and an amazing source of information of the diverse flora and fauna in the region. Highly recommend this hike and Mountain Ways Ireland as your guide.

Outstanding experience. Mountain Ways Ireland has a deep knowledge of the land and the landscape. In my case, they crafted an experience that allowed me to tap into my ancestral roots as well. It was much more than a day hike. I’m grateful for the effort Brian put in ahead of time. By combining that with his familiarity with the place and the people, he created a completely unique experience.

It was a very enjoyable experience with lovely people out in the countryside learning about plants and their uses. After the walk and talk we were treated to a taste of some of the marvellous food that can be made and yummy teas. Definitely worth a visit, you'll enjoy and learn at the same time.

I had the pleasure of attending Brian's Foraging at Lunasa recently, at Bluebell Lane Glamping in Mullaghbane. Brian has a wealth of knowledge that he presents in an easy to understand and personable manner, accompanied by stories and references to the beautiful Ring of Gullion, where he grew up. Throughout the day we were fed delicious tastes of food Brian and Lorraine had made using plants he had foraged. I would highly recommend Brian's foraging courses, whether you are a complete novice or have some knowledge and experience.

I recently attended a foraging workshop with Mountain Ways Ireland. It was excellent and I would highly recommend anyone considering attending one. Brian and Lorraine were both very welcoming and friendly it was evident they are both passionate about their work and welcoming people from all walks of life to attend their workshops. Brian's wealth of knowledge, expertise and experience of foraging is second to none.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to attending more workshops with Mountain Ways Ireland in the near future.

Thank you kindly, Brian and Lorraine😊😊

Wow, what a fantastic learning experience. I was visiting family who arranged an introduction to foraging course (about 3hr long) as part of a day out. Apprehensive, I still went with an open mind and I'm glad I did. I love the outdoors and soon realised that there's a whole world out there that I've always just taken for granted. I don't think I'll ever walk out and about again, without at least trying to take a closer look at the things around me.

Greeted with a warm handshake, tea and coffee, from the moment you arrive, you are made to feel welcome and at ease. You are invited to investigate the vast quantities of books and jars (full of foraged bits and bobs), whilst waiting on other course members to arrive. Not forgetting of course, to taste a few of the home-brew infused waters! Following a brief formal group welcome in the barn and a few of the essential do's and don'ts, we ventured out. Going from garden to road, to field, to track, it was an enjoyable stroll around their farm, stopping to discuss and taste the foliage along the way. Lorraine popped back and forth from the house to bring a selection of tasty foraged treats for us to try (pesto's, jams and soup).

Brian and Lorraine have put together a truly unique learning experience, in a breath-taking location and with a stunning backdrop. The wealth of knowledge imparted throughout was quite simply, extraordinary, and Brian answered all and every question with an honest and understandable answer. He's as willing to teach you what he knows, as much as he is to learn anything new from you.

In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will try and do another course the next time I am over in Ireland.

For those with limited mobility, who are wondering whether this is a course they could manage, well, I have mobility issues and need a walking stick to get around outdoors. A vast majority of the terrain is obviously off-road, but it's not too strenuous, the pace was good and it doesn't cover a vast distance.

(This is a copy of the same review I made on TripAdvisor, but they are my own words)

Brian ran an exceptional hike for a group of my clients on a recent leadership retreat. He was very informative, personable and professional. All of the group enjoyed interacting with him and his stories brought the landscape around us to life in a magical way. Highly recommended.
