A small museum with excavation but packed with local history. Who knew! Lots of interesting artefacts, information boards and photos. Excellent knowledge of the Curator and Toby the Priory dog! Spend a Sunday afternoon here, Merton Abbey Mills (crafts & Liberty history) lunch or a drink by river Wandle. All very child friendly - free parking in Sainsbury’s Savacentre.

Admittedly, the site may not seem spectacular however the original entire abbey wood have been and it is extremely relevant to the history and development of Merton. The devoted archaeologist and dedicated volunteers have worked so hard to secure lottery funding and get to this point. The museum is free and very well laid out, with displays that wouldn't look out of place in any renowned museum. There are examples of the architecture using genuine pieces, the foundation of the abbey chapter House and also information about burials and a separate display about the subsequent industries on the site. Moreover it's still a work in progress. Well worth a popping into if visiting the SavaCentre or Merton Abbey Mills.

Worth a visit with plenty of informative history boards about the priory through the ages. There are some finds on view, but mainly floor tiles and fragments of columns. The museum is only opened on specific days, but is situated right under the road. The old priory was massive in its heyday, but only the chapter house remains visible. Allow an hour for your visit. The museum is free but donations are always welcomed. There are a few books and small souvenirs for sale at the exit.

A hidden gem of a place, free entry and good exhibits displaying local history alongside the preserved ruins of a long lost medieval Abbey - all hidden under a major dual carriageway. A must do if you are in the area, but check opening times first.

Fascinating place to visit and reimagine the vast monastery that used to stand on this site. Lots of information about the life of the Augustan canons. Can be combined with a Sunday trip to Sainsbury's superstore or Pizza Express.
