This hotel was wonderful.It has a stunning position overlooking the loch and in an ideal location for exploring the prehistoric sites.The food was outstanding,really delicious home cooking and a wide choice at every meal.The puddings were amazing and it was difficult to choose as they were all so good.
The staff really make the Merkister Hotel memorable.They really all ensure you are well looked after and advise you on what to see on the Island and suggest booking if necessary.
They really go beyond what would be expected and they all seem to enjoy interacting with the guests.Top notch hotel.

Fantastic short stay. Everyone was so friendly. Room overlooked the Loch which was a lovely bonus. Meals were freshly cooked and delicious. I can recommend the steak and ale pie. Will definitely be back.

Were up staying at this amazing place whilst working up here. The rooms are comfy, homely and exceptionally clean. We planned on eating out on the second night, but after sampling the food on our first night we, just had to eat here again. Friendly staff and true island hospitality

Great 4 nights stay in room 9. Staff fantastic, can't do enough for you. Great food during stay. Great staff behind bar and serving food.Room excellent with really comfy bed. Breakfast choice excellent. Would definitely recommend and definitely come back in future.

I'd booked in advance as it was a Sunday and when we arrived they had no booking, but we were still accommodated in the bar area, so had personal service. The views are great and there is plenty of parking, with more overflow below the hotel. The food was tasty and good value.

It’s always a gamble, booking a hotel with no local knowledge, but this one excels in every possible way.
The rooms are comfortable, large, spotlessly clean and ours has a great view. Every member of staff is friendly and helpful and the food is exceptional.
Its central position is perfect for touring the main island with many Orkney gems a short drive away. We especially enjoyed the Broch of Gurness, the Broch of Birsay, the Earl’s Palace in Kirkwall and Maeshowe.
We spent 5 nights (4 days due to Aberdeen ferry arriving so late at night), and found this was plenty of time to explore everywhere.

We visited this hotel for a couple of nights with a bunch of chums during our trip to Orkney. The hotel is very pleasant with delightful, friendly staff who are keen to make one’s stay as good as possible. |The rooms were comfortable and clean. |The food was very good with excellent breakfasts and dinner was always delicious and plentiful, especially the seafood. |Thankyou for looking after us so well.
