I have not been to the Lion since it changed hands back along. Yesterday I found myself in the mood for a pizza and as the pub does Pizza Mondays (I had seen this advertised on social media) I thought I would pop in and treat myself to one. Boy, do I wish I hadn't bothered...||I was met by a very sullen and curt bar member. I immediately felt that I was imposing despite the fact that there was only one customer standing at the bar. When I asked if I could order a pizza he responded by asking if I had pre-ordered. I had not as I did not believe this to have been essential. I have scrutinised the website and I can not find any stipulation that pre-ordering is mandatory. I was then told it would "probably be a no" but he would check.||There then followed a distant conversation between the barman and (I assume) the Chef which was held in German. Thus, I have no idea what was actually discussed. Ultimately I was told no - I could not order a pizza. Given that there were no more than a dozen folks in the pub I found that to be somewhat perplexing.||However, I accepted my defeat with grace (ish) and departed. I have lived in the area all my life and frequented the pub on numerous occasions when the previous owners were there.||That was the first and LAST time I will ever set foot in there.

This is such a gem of a place. The location is absolutely bang in the middle of town, by the church, and parking is not too hard. Lovely, friendly staff, nothing could be too much trouble. They were very accommodating and flexible with all our demands and changes of room for a large group. An excellent night's sleep was had, as well as a lovely lunch and a really great breakfast.

Although we only stayed for one night we fell in love with this old and quirky hotel. It has an amazing history and is much loved.|Comfortable rooms and lovely staff. The breakfast was local produce and high quality. We can't wait to stay again...

A great stay, perfect location. The hotel owners/staff were very helpful and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was great, room was comfortable and clean. Lots of character.

This hotel is a characteristic place in a very peaceful setting. The food is amazing and good value. The owners are very hospitable and have time to speak with all people using the facilities. Whether you are staying in the hotel or just visiting for an hour or so .

We weren’t hotel guests here, but had Monday night pizza. It was fabulous! Remembered to take a pic of the last 3 slices from our 2 pizzas. Nicely thin crust, with light sauce and just very fresh. Would certainly recommend trying the food here.

The host was incredibly kind and hospitable, and the hotel itself was stunning. The breakfast was delicious, clearly made with high-quality ingredients and great care. The bed was comfortable, and overall, it was excellent value for the price.

I was here just to eat at the restaurant with friends and family. I didn’t expect anything really and it turned out to be super nice. Food was delicious, the waiter was able to talk to some of the German guests fluently as well and we had a great time. Almost a hidden gem compared to the cluttered places in the same area.
