It was serendipitous how we found Lindsay Highland tours! We were in Camogli, Italy this past July and met a young woman from Scotland and told her we were going to Scotland in the fall.
She replied that she had relatives in the tour business— Steven Lindsay. We contacted Steven upon our return to the U.S., and the rest is history! After checking reviews and getting a proposed itinerary, we signed up for a most delightful 4-5 day tour with his father, George, as our personal driver/tour guide.
Louise was a most helpful go between making all our hotel reservations, arranging special tours and making sure I could figure out how to communicate via What's App.
George was great- amendable to last minute changes, handling our luggage- we don’t pack light,
and giving us much needed lessons on Scotland’s history. He also found the obscure birthplace of John Grierson, who first used the term of documentary film which happens to be my husband’s field.
Our days would start between 8:30-9 and often last til 6 or later. We started in Edinburgh, then on to St. Andrews and the famous 17th hole bridge, Inverness, Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, the Culloden Battlefield and museum- a true history lesson of the last battle between Scotland and England, and a final night’s stay in the Isle of Skye in Portree before making the trip back to Edinburgh. The Highlands of Scotland were ablaze in colors of fall.
George made sure we had plenty of places to stop for photos and kept the van full of snacks and water. He also knew spots off the beaten path to show us as well as all the tourist stops.
There is no way we could have picked a more wonderful tour experience to see Scotland.

My son has gotten into genealogy and we discovered that we both have a large percentage of Scottish heritage. His paternal great grandmother was born in Scotland and he started to show interest in traveling to see "where he's from".

I found Lindsay's Highland Tours through Elsewhere.io when researching for a possible trip over. I spoke to Steven and we came up with an itinerary that would highlight different parts of Scotland that would appeal to both my son and I. We ended up having to scrap the first itinerary due to unforeseen circumstances and just do two single day tours from Edinburgh.

Ian was our host for the two days. He is a retired Scottish history teacher and such a wealth of information. He is very passionate about his country and can tell he loves his job. He taught us about the history without being talked at. If that makes sense.

Being it was just the three of us, and I'm super nosey!, we also got to learn more about Ian on a personal level. That was pure icing on the cake. I felt like we started as strangers and left as extended family. My son and I went to London and found ourselves saying we wish Ian was here with us. And asking would it be strange if we sent him photos of what we were doing. (We didn't, because would it be strange?!)

One of the things I really appreciated was that Ian took tons of photos for us (scenery, etc.), of us, and with us! He knew all the perfect places to stop, where to find the red deer, and which waterfall would be better for us to see up-close. He also made sure for us to see the Highland Coos before it got dark.

It seemed like he was really enjoying himself as well. I've never taken a private tour before and not sure if all hosts get involved, but I don't think I would want it any other way.

Thank you Steven and Ian for making our time in Scotland amazing. It wasn't a long enough stay and we will definitely be back. Lindsay's Highland Tours will be the first call I make.

I booked through a site called Elsewhere on a whim. The first chat I had with Steven got me so excited to visit Scotland. He went above and beyond with planning our itinerary. They were flexible and made sure to include everything we wanted to see. They took us to hidden gems away from tourists. Super knowledgeable and was able to answer any questions we had.
It felt less like a tour and more like spending a few days friends while learning about Scotland. The communication was great and every day we knew exactly what the plan was. The hotels we stayed in were great. I cant think of anything that could've made our trip better.

We just returned from our tour and cannot say enough about how wonderful it was! We went to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and explore his Scottish roots. We knew next to nothing about how to maximize a tour through Scotland so we appreciated with working Steven on an initial itinerary. Once we got going on the tour we realized that our desire to hike, bike and paddle was stronger than our need to see cultural/historical sites, so we worked with George (our private driver - such an indulgence but also so key for the left-sided driving!) and Steven and their staff to tailor the trip to maximize adventure. They were extremely flexible and supportive, finding gorgeous hikes and waterfalls, e-bike rentals on Isle of Skye, kayak rentals for the lochs, and even changing accommodations at the last minute so we could spend extra time on Skye. In addition, George still made sure we got to see castles and fairy pools and eat oysters and taste whiskey. George is a national treasure with his knowledge of and love for country, and Steven and Louise had great tips and insights all along, even inviting us to a rooftop deck at the end for a members-only evening of drinks in the Scottish sunshine (it exists!). We adored our time with them, and cannot wait to return!

P.S. We were SOOOO grateful not to be on a large or even mini-tour bus - it was just us and George and a lovely BMW, packed with extra snacks and water, hiking poles and binoculars, and even super-glue to fix the sole of my hiking boot!

I linked up with Steven at Lindsays Highland Tours through the website Elsewhere. Immediately I knew he was a great match for planning our trip. He took the time to understand what we wanted to see, special interests and ideas. I worked with him directly to plan our surprise engagement. He helped with picking the location and even reached out to photographers and the hotel to set up extra surprises. He met us on the first day and helped us to our hotel and checked in on us at the end our trip. He had the full agenda planned for us. He was in touch the whole process and was a joy to work with. I highly recommend using the Lindsays Highland Tours for all your Scotland travel needs!
