Very, very friendly little railway.
Operating narrow gauge railway (not as wide as main line trains across the rails)
Using the track on a disused branch line.
Nice trip along to the far end, taking about 15-20 minutes.
Nice cream teas in a friendly cafe.
My son asked and was shown the engine sheds and other places that are not normally open.
Apart from the weather being hot and humid, making us very hot and tired, we had a great day.
Highly recommend.

An excellent example of how to run a small heritage railway. Great facilities, lovely characterful buildings, friendly volunteers, good food and a good bookshop to top it all off.

A piece of important history kept alive by an enthusiastic team.
If it’s a nice day, take a picnic on an early train and get off at the end. Take the river path down to the picturesque picnic area, then you won’t be rushed on which train to take back.
Small museum, gift shop and cafe. Once you have purchased your ticket you can ride as many times as you like that day.

It's bigger than we thought. Lovely, cheap cafe. Cute gift and book shop and clean toilets and staff were all attentive. The museum is great but upstairs is amazing if you like old motorbikes. Real little treat x

You pay your ticket price and then you can just kind of hang out enjoying some food, the museum, taking multiple trips on the narrow gauge line, and learning about the old normal gauge line that used to be here.

Authentic steam train ride with a museum (go upstairs to see an awesome collection of vintage motorbikes) and a small shop. Definitely worth the visit if you're in Launceston.

Launceston Steam Railway turned out to be far more enjoyable than expected.
Arriving at lunchtime I headed for the cafe only to find that it is vegetarian, but my disappointment soon changed when I tasted the Leek and Potato soup.
The staff were very informative and more than willing to talk about the railways history.
I even got a tour of the loco sheds !
The trip was longer than expected and runs alongside the river from the town.
Well worth a visit !
