This was a very interesting castle to visit, I've been to a lot of castles, but this one you could not walk around on your own, you had to have a guide. This is because a great deal of the building is still used for legal things today, this is also the reason you cannot take photos or videos throughout a lot of the tour. You will be showed around various parts of the old prisons, the magistrates court, the crown court, and other important rooms. The guide was very informative, overall a great tour.

Absolutely brilliant. We booked the guided tour. Christopher, the tour guide was amazing, an absolute fountain of knowledge. The guided tour costs £9 but worth every penny. Amazing history, it's still a working crown court, so you're not allowed to take photos inside. We are definitely going to go back for another visit.

This is an interesting castle with a lot of history. You can visit the outside for free but need to pay for a guided tour of the rest. The tour includes some of the current court building (where photography is restricted) and former prison cells (where photography is allowed).
It has historical links with John of Gaunt, Henry IV, the Pendle Witches and the Birmingham 6.
It includes a small.shop and cafe.

Really enjoyed £9 for the tour and rather expensive homemade chocolates. Nice cafe with good amenities. Seating inside and out, a lovely place for studying or writing university notes, which many students were taking advantage of. I would go again, only 25 minutes walk from the train station.

Beautiful place. It has a cafe and a small souvenir shop. There's also a small handmade chocolate shop with delicious varieties. It's free to enter, but you have to pay for a tour of the inside—completely worth it. I got the best tour guide with so much knowledge and enthusiasm.

A very good way to spend a couple of hours in Lancaster. We didn't pay for the guided tour, but just wandered around. The Police museum in the old prison is excellent. There is a small exhibit about the Lancashire witch trials. The views of and from the castle are fantastic, and it is worth a walk around the Priory behind the castle and the grounds.

Very interesting place, home to a castle, a prison, police museum and still working civil and criminal courts. Whole family found it fascinating and price is very reasonable for the tour. Staff are great Would highly recommend

It was a great experience visiting the historic medieval Castle on my one day motorcycle ride. Dominating the local skyline, Lancaster Castle is one of England's best-preserved castles.
The castle is located near to Lancaster city centre and is sign-posted from junctions 33 and 34 of the M6 motorway.
