Very poor experience. If you are looking for a reliable way to get to Islay from Ballycastle do not book here. My brother and I were looking forward to visiting Islay for the first time. We booked a few distillery tours just to find out we had to cancel because one of the boats was down to maintenance. Instead of leaving at the earliest time or 10:30, we were told the only ferry’s we could catch were 12:00 and the last departing ferry from Islay would be 3:00PM. We decided to just go ahead and still try to get to Islay on the 12:00 departure. Of course we arrive at the Harbour and find out the other boat is also having maintenance issues. No warning was given. We were waiting at the dock for 30 mins before one of the other passengers got ahold of the boat captain to let us know. Still 1.5 hours after our scheduled departure and no communication with the kintyre express. They did not answer any of our calls so terrible communication. Weather was perfect so cancellations were all because of them. Due to the multitude of cancellations you would think there would be some flexibility with departure times to accomadate those that had to completely change their travel plans because of the kintyre express’s inability to offer a reliable ferry to Islay. But no they still only offered a 3:00 PM departure from Islay. Even if you have the ability to spend the night at Islay, there is a strong chance you will get stranded out there due to the unreliability of the ferry. Weather and occasional maintenance cancellations are understandable but weather was perfect and they just have a poorly maintained fleet. That along with poor communication and customer service would force to me to highly recommend others look to book Aquaholics or fly over to Islay. The kintyre express is completely unreliable

There’s always delays and miscommunications. They are completely unwilling to adjust schedules to meet the customer’s needs. For example, their departure from Ballycastle to Islay got delayed 5 times and they were unwilling to adjust the return trip, leaving all their passengers either stranded on Islay or forced to cancel. Multiple distillery tours could not be cancelled on short notice along with Taxi hires.

The Kintyre Express is an excellent service, connecting Ballycastle to Islay & Campbeltown. The boat is fast, reliable, clean as a whistle and actually it's fun. The service is efficient, the guys will pull out all the stops to keep the boat running on time. Gerry & James are absolute gentlemen, and a bit of craic. A throughly enjoyable recent trip with family was had, and Im delighted to recommend this service. Denver
