Lovely pub and I'm sure the food is good too judging by earlier reviews but the bar service was appalling the afternoon my wife and I called in around 2.30pm. We waited around 5 to 6 minutes to be served even though we were the only people at the bar. The first member of the 2 bar staff was busy serving dining customers but the second (male) was more concerned with chatting in the kitchen and looking to "busy" himself rather than serve a waiting customer. After our first drink we tried, despite the initial poor service, to obtain a second drink. By this time there was just the one male behind the bar who again was chatting in the kitchen. When he emerged from the kitchen he then spent some 30 to 45 seconds running reports off the till well aware that I was waiting to be served. If that wasn't bad enough he then disappeared again into the kitchen, when he re-appeared from the kitchen some 2 minutes later he then began preparing 2 coffees which looked like they were for staff. It looked like he was trying to find anything to do rather than serve a customer at the bar. It would of helped had he acknowledged my presence with a simple "be with you in a minute" comment but he never spoke a word. At this point we left the pub and had a totally different and lovely experience at the Greave Dunning, we also had a meal there which was also lovely and great value for money! I need to stress that on both occasions I was the only person at the bar waiting to be served. We won't call again which is a pity since it is a lovely pub setting etc. but won't tolerate service like this.

The Irby Mill is a charming, dog-friendly pub with a welcoming atmosphere. They boast a great selection of local ales, for those who indulge. While I didn’t sample the food, it came highly recommended by others. The service was great, and my Guinness was surprisingly well-poured—better than I expected! A lovely spot for a relaxed drink.

Came for Sunday Roast with our German Shepherd. Oh my word the best Roast dinner I’ve eaten out in a while and we eat out a lot. So much varied veg cooked to perfection, the most tasty beef and the gravy was amazing, so much flavour. They serve late and I’d highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. A decent glass of Merlot for me too and a lovely pint of mild for my husband. Don’t hesitate to book. Friendly staff too.

This was our first visit even after living nearby for many years. The food was delicious, my steak was cooked perfectly and my dad’s fish and chips were inhaled sharpish! Desserts were top notch too! Very friendly staff also. We will be back! A+

Haven’t eaten at the Irby Mill for a number of of years regretfully. The wife’s away so had to go for it. Great beer choices varied enjoyed a peerless ale & Salopian beer. The food though was par excellence. Tender sumptuous steak & the garlic bread remains as succulent as ever. Delightful evening with helpful friendly staff well done

Really good home cooked independent food, and a nice independent pub. Service was good and the atmosphere was nice and warm. However…. That is supposed to be blue cheese sauce with the burger. It looks and tasted like pepper corn. I raised this and was told no its definitely blue cheese. So either really bad sauce or a forgetful chef. It definitely had no cheese in. Other than that I can’t fault, the food was so good and staff really welcoming
