We rented a camper van from Indie Campers Manchester for our 4-day road trip to Scotland, and it was an amazing experience! The pickup process was smooth and the staff were friendly and helpful. The camper was clean, well-equipped, and comfortable for the long drives and overnight stays.

Driving through Glencoe, Loch Lomond, and the Highlands was a dream—and having the flexibility of a camper van made it even more special. Would definitely recommend Indie Campers for anyone planning an adventurous and scenic getaway! 🚐🌲

Absolutely Awful Experience – Avoid Indie Campers at All Costs

We hired a campervan from Indie Campers for Glastonbury, expecting a bit of luxury—things like a working fridge, a shower, and the ability to charge our devices. What we got instead was a catalogue of problems that completely ruined the experience and made the price tag feel like a joke.

The van itself was riddled with issues:
• The fridge barely worked—it would randomly power off, leaving food and drinks spoiled.
• The toilet leaked inside the van, making it unhygienic and unpleasant.
• European plug sockets in a UK vehicle (picked up in the UK!), so we couldn’t even charge devices without adapters.
• No levelling blocks, no awning, and a built-in sat nav that didn’t work.
• Parking sensors were non-functional and the steering constantly pulled to the right, making driving stressful and potentially unsafe.
• The interior control panel didn’t link up with the systems, so we had no idea when things were full or empty.
• Several blinds inside the van were broken, compromising privacy and comfort.

We raised all of these issues multiple times with customer service—and received absolutely nothing in return. The only communication channel is an unresponsive online chat. No acknowledgment. No effort to fix things. No offer of a refund or compensation. The staff at both pick-up and drop-off admitted they’d only been working there for two weeks—further evidence of the high staff turnover and poor internal operations.

Indie Campers clearly don’t care about their customers once they’ve taken your money. We feel completely ripped off and let down.

We’re actively warning friends, family, and fellow travellers to stay well away from this company. No one should experience this level of service, negligence, and sheer lack of accountability.

Avoid at all costs. Indie Campers are money-grabbing cowboys.

AVOID INDIE CAMPERS AT ALL COST.

On the surface, our campervan from Indie Campers appeared fine at pick-up—until we opened the door and were hit by an overpowering smell of cigarette smoke. Things only went downhill from there.

Despite having a pre-booked time, we waited over an hour in the office while just two staff members scrambled to onboard everyone. Surprisingly, basic kitchen essentials like utensils, plates, and pans weren’t stocked in the vans in advance. Instead, the staff had to manually restock each one during handover, a bizarre and inefficient process that delayed everyone even further.

Our van came with a long list of issues. We were told upfront that the dashboard glass was cracked, the gas/water level sensor didn’t work, and we weren’t to use the awning. Not exactly reassuring, but unfortunately, that was just the beginning.

The vehicle had a mechanical issue—it veered to the right while driving. Once parked, we switched the fridge to gas mode and discovered it would only stay on for an hour before shutting off. This went on for six days, spoiling all our food despite our best efforts.

Worse still, the toilet leaked from the first use on day one. It wasn’t full—the seal around the compartment was clearly worn down, and waste seeped through, creating an unsanitary nightmare. You can only imagine.

The online chat support was frustrating and ineffective. We had to re-explain our problems repeatedly, with no real help or the option to speak to an actual person. By the time we returned the van and explained everything to the team at drop-off, we were simply referred back to the same broken support system. No apology, no resolution, and certainly no mention of compensation.

We left feeling completely unheard and deeply disappointed. Indie Campers failed on every level—customer service, vehicle maintenance, and accountability. Travelling in a campervan is meant to be a joyful experience. Unfortunately, this was anything but.

To top it all off, I submitted a formal complaint well over a week ago and have still heard nothing back—not even an acknowledgement. At this point, I don’t expect one.

I’ll be steering well clear of this company in the future and warning others to do the same. We've had brilliant experiences with SwiftGo in Stockport, so it’s a real shame to have such a disappointing contrast here. Indie Campers has completely failed on quality, service, and accountability.
