We had an absolutely wonderful weekend staying in one of the Truffles, ‘Hush’, at Honeydown!

The Truffles are incredibly unique—cozy, beautifully designed, and clearly created with a lot of care and attention to detail. Everything was well-maintained, with all the amenities we needed for a comfortable stay. I was keen to learn a bit more about the environmental aspect of the site and John was happy to explain the concept that he and Sarah had but I cannot stress enough that at no point were they ever pushy with the environmental stuff just all too happy to answer questions.

John and Sarah were so warm and welcoming. It’s clear they genuinely care about ensuring every guest has the best possible experience. You could see little touches everywhere that showed they had put thought into every detail from the wheelbarrows to help with luggage to umbrellas to keep the fire wood dry. You could tell they had thought of every aspect of their guests stay.

The location is perfect—peaceful and serene, yet an excellent base for exploring Dartmoor. You felt very in touch with nature while still being a convenient distance from local facilities.

Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a more relaxing and memorable stay. We highly recommend Honeydown and will definitely be coming back!

My family and I spent two nights here. On arrival we were met by John, who is such a warm, welcoming, friendly and an overall lovely guy. The truffle was stunning! It was so peaceful. The overall amenities were easy to use and very clean. The night sky was clear, making star gazing absolutely perfect! I would highly recommend visiting Honeydown! I will definitely be back!

This place is truly special. We spent a weekend there and it was perfect, glamping on the next level.

The ‘truffles’, which are the pods you stay in, are designed like large pebbles which look small from the outside but are really big on the inside. It has no power to it but there are a couple of battery-operated lights. There is a log burner to keep warm at night (a full log-burning kit is provided) which creates a lovely ambience.

Outside each truffle you have a kitchen area with a gas-fired BBQ and a gas-fired single hob for cooking. There’s also a set of plates and crockery, saucepan, knives, etc. There’s even a French press coffee maker with coffee grounds provided. There’s also a fire pit with little stomps around it for a campfire and a pizza oven you use log burners to cook.

The toilets and shower are in a communal area with a sink and fridge directly behind it. Whilst it’s a communal zone, away from your truffles each truffle has its own private shower and kitchen area. Showers are stocked with body wash, shampoo, and hand wash.

We stayed in Dormouse which is the closest to the communal toilet area, perfect if you need to use the loo at night!

The whole area is a dark site, lights go off at 10pm and the torches need to come out if you want to get around. But if you’re lucky and it’s a clear night the stars are amazing!

We had a fantastic weekend stay at Honeydown. The accommodation was cosy, spotless, and really well thought out, making it the perfect place to unwind. We loved relaxing in the evenings around the fire pit and BBQ — a great way to end the day. There’s so much to do nearby too: we spent time cycling the Tarka Trail, tried sailing, and enjoyed exploring the local countryside and pubs. The location feels peaceful and private, surrounded by nature, but it’s also ideally placed for getting out and about. John was so welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. We’ll definitely be back!

We absolutely loved Honeydown and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a beautiful and peaceful woodland escape, surrounded by oak trees. It's such a special place, and really has the wow factor. Every pod is in its own little section and you can't see anyone else, so the only thing we could hear at night were the owls.

The handmade 'truffles' (we thought they were more like conkers!) are incredible - they are definitely larger on the inside than they look in the photos, and are very tastefully and luxuriously decked out with scandi-style furry and knitted throws, and wooden furniture. You get your own little gas kitchen area, with a tabletop gas barbecue and stove, plus a woodfired pizza oven, as well as the outdoor fire pit. Most crockery is supplied (no wine glasses), and there is no electricity or running water to your truffle (the few lights in the truffle and outside the kitchen are on a battery) so bring camping lights. It's a short walk to your person washing up station with fridge, and personal toilet and shower.

John and Sarah were super welcoming and chatty, and their dogs are lovely! This was exactly what we needed to recharge, our little adventure in the Devon forest. Thanks so much, we would love to return next year.

We had an amazing family stay at the Truffle Huts! Each hut is beautifully tucked away in its own peaceful corner of the woods—it felt so magical. The facilities were excellent, and John and his family were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We also really appreciated the great local recommendations for places to visit and things to do (particularly enjoyed the Granite Way bike trail) Highly recommend for a relaxing and unique getaway!

We had a fantastic time at Honeydown and couldn't recommend it highly enough. Stayed for two nights at the end of July with our 11-month old and it was a blast. Beautiful setting, underneath the forest canopy; the pods and the facilities are clean, and modern, and restorative.

–Reset in a beautiful, natural, hygge oasis of thoughtfully curated calm
–Carefully crafted masterpieces of ingenuity, innovation and eco friendly engineering
–John and Sarah (the creators) make everything appear effortless (and are solid gold!)

I like my creature comforts and am as far away from Bear Grylls as possible. Neither am I a "write-a-review" type person but wanted to get down my gratitude and potentially help anyone looking to escape to a simpler, more enjoyable way of city-free living (even it’s just for the weekend).

I’m a London based dad of 2 young active nippers and me and my partner are just back from 6 nights of hygge living and unforgettable magic living under the stars.

This is a very special place - lovingly and thoughtfully created by the ever energetic owners John and Sarah, with the perfect balance of minimalist living and touches of lux – all with the mindfulness of ecological, sustainable living at the heart.

Inside and out, the truffle pods are incredible to look at - almost other worldly - especially within their tranquil setting. They are totally bespoke and their back-story build is fascinating. They are super cosy and the 2 large side windows invite nature right into your living space (not literally - I’m not into spiders as much as the next man). It rained a few nights when we were there - with the lights dimmed, these were my most memorable evenings. We stayed in July and all was perfect in terms of room temperature. We never needed the inside burner - but imagine how cosy it would be in Autumn.

They are impressively big on the inside, ours came with an internal hammock, large double bed, we put in an additional cot and had a camp bed and there was still ample room to move around and chase the kids. The insides are free from clutter and unnecessaries - the up-cycled table / chairs are complemented with lovely blankets and touches of minimal Scandi hand-crafted objects. There are no electrical sockets and the lights are battery powered.

I think there are 5 truffle pods, we stayed in “Sun Dapple” and ours came its own private outdoor wood burning space and large, covered “open plan” kitchen area. There is a gas powered hob and kettle (and more - it’s all been considered for you). There is no electricity here (deliberately so) but everything you need is in this kitchen - the memories of freshly cooked evening meal times will stay with me for ever. There are battery powered festoon lights for atmospheric evenings.

Making an early morning brew amongst nature, singing birds and bubbling kettle were amazing.
The day was wrapped up with a roaring fire and couple of cold beers (each pod has it’s own private fridge) watching the kids play / getting covered in marshmallows.

Each pod has it’s OWN allocated shower / bathroom area and are a 2 min winding walk away (through the pathed woods). Each pod has its own kitchen wash-up space here too (and an electrical socket for personal use). The textural, wood panelling contrasts with the polished chrome, new fixtures and fittings and complement the natural surroundings. They are beautifully constructed, spacious and are both kitchen and shower areas are (OCD level) immaculate.

For those that want to venture out a little, there are a few local bits and bobs to explore (cafe / parkland) within a short distance from the pod and are all considerately listed in the accompanying details.

The pod areas themselves are private and well spaced apart - there were couples and families there and we never heard any noise from their areas. It truly felt like we were off-grid and away from the treadmill. We came back to London with full hearts, minds and iPhones (it’s impossible not to photograph everything!)

This is a very special place for family fun and forever memories, all lovingly created by the incredible John and Sarah.

My kids loved it, me and my partner will never forget it. I cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. It’s magical. Thank you John and Sarah (and we’ll hopefully see you next year!)
