Excellent in every way. I stayed in a lovely quiet room, beautifully decorated and slept really well on the comfy bed. The staff were first class including the chef who produced delicious food at every sitting. I can find no fault here only praise!

My friend and I spent 3 nights at Thorns Hall and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the Hall was very relaxing.||We met some lovely people and walked mainly locally which was beautiful.||The guides were very helpful and knowledgeable about the area and the grade of walks. I would particularly like to thank Gareth for his help and great sense of humour.||The staff were helpful and genuinely friendly towards us and worked tirelessly to make our stay special.. thank you . The food was very good and especially the roast beef yummy 😋. Thank you to all the staff.

What a fabulous place ! The staff were exceptional they could not do enough for you . The food was delicious . The hotel was a lovely size not too big so even if there were only a few people there you could find a cosy corner . The bedroom was comfortable with a good bathroom and pristine clean . We have been to many HF properties and this was the best. The staff, nearly all from EU countries, were superb, friendly, helpful and efficient. Our room had a huge double bed and good bathroom. The meals were varied and well cooked. The location on the edge of Sedbergh means a good choice of walks can be done without getting in the car. The Howgills offer stunning scenery and challenging walks, with superb 360° views from the tops.

Be warned I had one of the so-called 'classic' rooms. I had been warned beforehand that it did not have its own toilet or shower facilities. However I was not expecting a tiny room, with a single bed and tiny window....more akin to a prison cell ! HF should not be charging anything like the full rate for such inferior rooms. It was a shame as other aspects of my stay were good. I would not say the inferior quality of the room spoilt my holiday but certainly greatly diminished it.

HF Holidays Hotels specialising in walking holidays. They certainly do and give you a great welcome and very friendly service. Aimed mainly at seniors but this doesn't deter from the different types of difficulty available. You can choose Hard, Medium and easy walking and also they offer a more leisurely scenic walk which can stop and start more often at a more realistic rate if required. The food is great and the bar well stocked with everything that most require. The room was spacious and comfortable and facilities were adequate. The restaurant staff are superb and nothing is too much trouble. All very quick service. Evening entertainment is varied and is not compulsory. Thank goodness. Not all rooms good get wifi but it is available close to reception area.

Fantastic place for walking holidays as it is set up for it. Old house so slopey floors in places but great atmosphere. Food to die for with great service.
