This was a great tour with knowledgeable guides who are passionate about the town and its food. All the places visited were wonderful…I enjoyed the sourdough bread from the micro-bakery, the pancakes, the tacos, the pizza, the mackerel pate, the mash and pie, and the little cakes especially the chocolate Swiss roll. I have lived in the town for years but had never sampled any of these except the pizza! It was so interesting to meet the people behind the products as well. A fun time and a full tum! Thank you! I will recommend to friends and family.

AMAZING!! I booked Rachel & Jools to provide an afternoon team building event to include food and a quiz, they did not disappoint. Communication between them was easy and clear, the whole event was managed professionally, we had 35 staff join, they were paired with colleagues from different departments, in teams of 5 , the tour enabled everyone to interact with each other and enjoy relaxing time at each wonderful venue, cannot recommend enough, we will be looking to do this again on a different trail, thank you Rachel and Jools 10/10!

Just been on a Hello Food Tours tour of Bishops Stortford - a 3 hour amble around the town, learning about its history and culinary heritage from the past and now. Explored (and tasted) a wide variety of foods from various cultures, while meeting and hearing the stories of the independent owners who have the passion for their food business. A very nice long lunch, and recommended.

I joined Rachel this week and really enjoy her extensive knowledges of the town and history her love for local business and the food we shared was amazing.

It’s definitely something you could do more than once as there were many places we didn’t visit.

This would make a great gift, a date day or even something to do alone and tag along with the group.

Thank you hello food tours

This food tour is a must do for anyone visiting the area or for those with a passion and an interest for the local food produce. I attended the food tour with a friend and we met Rachel at 8am at the tourist office. We were met with fresh bread from the bakery and then proceeded to visit all the stalls and taste their produce and hear their stories. Everyone was so interesting and passionate about what they do. The health food stall, had prepared some flapjacks and granola for us, next was the coffee man whose passion and knowledge for his ground coffee was great to see. We went onto the cheese stall, then the kefir stall which was something I had never tasted before and the lady was very knowledgeable about the health benefits etc. The Spanish stall had gorgeous meats and the Borough Olives stall allowed us to taste several different products; their pesto is probably the best I have ever tasted. The fish stall was very generous with their offerings and were lovely people to talk to. Finally the sausage stall man allowed us to taste several different types of sausages, told us the interesting history of how the owner got started and gave us a sausage barm to depart with- we were in heaven! Rachel left us after 1 and a half hours and we happily continued to shop. The market was a lively, bustling place with a great atmosphere. There was no pressure to buy, the produce sold itself and everyone had time for us. Overall a great experience 👍

I was booked on to this incredible food tour as part of a gift from my sister during a visit. I thought she was just getting me out of the house for 8.00 am with the promise of a sausage butty.l at the end of it. She wasn’t wrong but more about that later 🤪
I was met by Rachel outside the tourist information office. Most of the market was already set up and there was a hive of activity developing around the stalls.
I was immediately gifted a little tasting box containing freshly baked bread from a local artisan bakery called ‘Mini Miss’. Whilst it was tempting to start eating, I was advised to save it for some goodies later on in the food tour.
Each and every food stall holder took the time to chat about their produce, it wasn’t just promoting their goods, there was a real passion and pride about what they were selling and why. Lots of very generous tasters were given. Most notably: the health food stall ( try the cereal) the oils and vinegars, the fishmongers - what an absolute delight and extremely generous. The Italian meats, the cheese stall and my absolute favorite was borough olives. They couldn’t have been more generous. I ended up tasting and buying some chermoula, wow!!! What a taste sensation!!
Many of the stalls ended in sales from me. However there was absolutely no pressure - the produce sold itself.
A word of caution, I did go back to the fishmongers to get some of the pate but it sold out Very quickly indeed so if there’s something you want, you need to buy it there and then or reserve it because it goes fast!!
Some stalls offer postal service - one we have used is the coffee bean man - sorry I don’t know your name!
I did have a quick chat with a famous regular local doing his food shop too. Maybe you might bump into him too.
This food tour absolutely blew me away, such a great idea as a gift. It will definitely be on my list of things to do when I come down to visit again.
Going to the market early was a necessary evil to get to chat to the market traders before they get really busy

This is a Saffron Walden at its finest. The Market is a delight and has a good number of surprises to discover. Not always immediately obvious that the smoked salmon is so delicious or the olives so tasty. Recommended!
