It was a dark and stormy night when I rolled into Alnmouth, a sleepy town with secrets buried deeper than the sea. The kind of place where the fog clings to the streets like an old lover who won’t let go. I was there on a mission – a two-night stay at Nether Grange, scouting for the next big retail opportunity. What I found was something altogether different.||||Day 1: Arrival and Anachronisms||Nether Grange greeted me with open arms and creaky floors. The joint looked like something out of a period drama, all grandeur with a hint of musty nostalgia. The dame at the reception handed me an actual key, heavy and cold in my hand. No modern gizmos here – just good old brass. It was the kind of place that made you wonder if the walls had eyes.||||I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was being watched. Every creak, every shadow seemed to be whispering secrets. I had to stay sharp, keep my wits about me. ||||Day 2: Breakfast, Bargains, and Beans||The morning came with the smell of sausages and the sound of seagulls. Breakfast at Nether Grange was a communal affair. I sat with a motley crew of hikers and tourists, all sharing tales over toast and tea. One old-timer regaled me with stories of Alnmouth’s history, his eyes twinkling with mischief. I didn’t believe half of it – Vikings looking for retail therapy? Pull the other one.||||After breakfast, I set off to survey the town. Alnmouth had charm, but it was clear this place wasn’t ready for the hustle and bustle of big-time retail. The closest I got to a potential storefront was an old fisherman’s shack – quaint, but too small for our needs.||||Day 2: Dinner, Delicacies, and Disbelief||That evening, I was invited to a dinner prepared by a chef with a reputation that stretched back to culinary legends. The meal started with foie gras that melted in my mouth and was followed by steak tartare so exquisite it almost made me forget my troubles. The pièce de résistance? Beans. But not just any beans – these were prepared with such finesse they could make a hard-boiled detective weep.||||As I leaned back, sated and slightly in awe, I couldn’t help but think that this place was better suited to a high-end restaurant than a retail operation. Maybe my team of checkout chickens would have to wait.||||Day 3: Departure and Departure from Plans||As I packed my bags to leave, I knew Alnmouth wasn’t the bustling market I’d hoped for. But Nether Grange had a way of getting under your skin. Its charm, its characters, and its ability to make you forget the outside world, even for just a few days, was something special. Sometimes, a manager needs a break from the grind – a chance to recharge and rediscover what really matters.||||Would I recommend Nether Grange for a new retail venture? Probably not. But for a whimsical getaway with a touch of British eccentricity and gourmet delights? Absolutely. Plus, I now have a newfound appreciation for the finer things in life that you just can’t find in a clearance bin.||||Final rating: 5 out of 5 shopping bags – because even a paranoid manager needs a little luxury and a lot of good food now and then.

Nether Grange. Alnmouth.
Outstanding service from the waiting, serving food staff. Reuben Marie & Alison were happy, friendly & helpful, alway patient as were all the other staff. The food was amazing! Really made me feel welcome, comfortable & nothing was ever to much trouble for any of the staff. They work incredibly hard. I loved my stay!

Listen, three words that summarise why the experience at Nether Grange is always amazing: Jack - Bayne. |He is such an incredible Chef, the way he makes the game terrine and haunch of venison with a port and amangac sauce is SO tasty, FINGER LICKING FINGER LICKING! He also makes extremely tasty and delicious butter spaghetti, using only real butter not LURPAK. He’s extremely friendly to me and my friends and he would always pop his head out the door and put his thumbs up and say “best chef in the west!”. So so nice of him to do that. Jack Bayne was the best chef, is the best chef in the west. No one can even compare he’ll have his own TV show one day. The venue is really stunning and service is quality, would highly recommend nether grange.

Having stayed at other HF Holiday hotels previously, I knew what to expect and wasn't disappointed. Fabulous food, wonderful rooms, fun evening entertainment and such personal service from Reuben, Allyson and their team, where nothing was too much trouble. Alnmouth is a lovely little village with so many great places to visit nearby; a few days is not enough. Highly recommended.

At approximately 1730hrs on TUESDAY 29 MARCH 2022 I was conducting my duties as a civilian when I entered the restaurant area of NETHER GRANGE HOTEL in ALNWICK for the purpose of eating my evening meal. As I entered through the large doors I noticed five large tables. Four of which at that time were attended by who I believe to be other guests. I approached the table where there were no other guests walking with speed as I felt hungry and wanted to order my meal promptly. When I was approximately 50CM to the table I extended my right arm and grasped firmly with my hand the back of the chair -that being posterior to the normal seating position of the chair- and shifted my body weight onto my left foot whilst simultaneously pulling the chair towards myself. I turned to the right on my left foot to enable the chair to pass by the front of my body before releasing my grasp on the chair and sitting myself upon it. I then took control of the chair by placing my right and left hands onto the chair and pulling it forward with myself so that I could be seated at the table. The I ordered sea bass and it was delicious. The chefs must be really good at their job! Top chefs ! Really nice sea bass! Top chefs and top hotel!
